United States Senate Page Program

Hello

I am a current junior and was just nominated by a senator to attend the spring session in 2012 of the Senate Page Program. Have you or has anyone you know done this program?
I just have a few questions, the first one being is it not to smart to turn down this offer? I went through the application process (essays, resumes, multiple interviews) and was selected but I'm not sure if I should do it.

Thanks

Hi boston95! Congratulations on being nominated for the Page Program! I am a former House of Representatives Page, and I can whole-heartedly say that the Page Program was the most incredible experience of my life. I learned so much throughout the duration of those six months, and the program has had a profound effect upon my life. In my biased opinion, you shouldn’t turn down this offer. Though I did not serve on the Senate side, it is similar is some aspects to the House program and is equally rewarding. If you have any specific questions (classes, work, etc.), please feel free to send me a message. Good luck!

Congrats boston95. I too was a former Page (House side) and it is definitely not an experience to pass up. I can say, even after three years of college at my dream school, nothing stacks up to when I was 16 an a Congressional Page. I know Pages who are in their 60s and still look back to their term as if it was the best time of their life. Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

I’m up for the Spring, PM me.

How were you nominated to this program? I’m interested in applying for this, but I saw that the page program is no longer running. Did you contact the senator?

Hey Congrats on getting the chance to be a Page! I was a Senate Page this last summer and it was an AMAZING experience! Definitely would not pass it up! And to answer Experimental’s question, only the House page program was scrapped, the Senate page program is still there. To become a Page, all I had to do was go to my Senator’s website (Harry Reid) and fill out an application online, but every senator has a different admissions process. I would recommend looking at your senator’s website and see what their requirements are.

I am applying for the senate page program for fall 2012. can someone tell me how things worked out with your school when you returned?? my school is on trimesters and I would miss nearly two of them by the time I returned in Jan. also, how does it work with taking PSAT’s or even SAT’s if I was selected for spring 2013?

Zach1234 I am also applying f

Zach1234 I have also applied for the fall and my school runs on trimesters as well. I have talked with my vice principal and since school starts end of August and the program is from September until January (which is the the second part of my second trimester) she said if I get chosen that I would only attend whatever time at school until the program would start and when I ended I would come back and do an independent study. My mentor (as part of a school program) is a state district representative and also my vice principal’s sister is going to let me intern at her office. I’m still waiting on the notice on wether or not my senator was accepted a page (Akaka-HI)

What about you? Who did you apply through?

liug: Have you heard if you are accepted?? Also has anyone from NJ heard anything?

zach: Yeah, I found around the end of July Senator Akaka was granted a female spot for the fall. My mom and I are traveling on the 3rd.
