Starting a thread for those applying to the United States Senate Youth Program!
I’m applying from Indiana and so far, finding information about the selection and testing process has been hard. No one from my school has ever applied.

I’m applying from South Carolina and finding information about it is the struggle. My guidance counselor received the test and the proctor instruction. She tells me that I’ll have to take the test the week of October 3-7. The only problem is that there wasn’t a study guide, so I don’t know how to study for the test.
@QMusic There was a lot more about foreign leaders on the test when I took it then I would have expected. Besides that, learn as much about the history and leadership of the Senate as you can. Some states do individual state history on the test. I know that SC is super competitive, good luck!!
Hello! I am applying for the state of Florida and have not yet taken the test. I am currently in AP U.S., but have not yet taken AP Gov., how may I better prepare for the test?
@macaroon1022 Study about government and politics not only locally, but globally. I took the test earlier this month and my test was pretty difficult. Make sure you go over amendments, ratification dates, and any other information regarding the Constitution. Learn about leaders from other places. I’ve gotten asked about government officials from other states and other countries. Information will be very current. Brush up on recent events, especially controversial ones. I was asked to guess who speaker of a passage. Side note, there was a lot more questions about Donald Trump than I was expecting. If you have any other questions about the test, feel free to ask me!
@QMusic thank you very much!
Have you already completed the interview?
@macaroon1022 Not yet. In SC the process is in rounds, so you’ll first take the multiple choice, then top scorers are given the essay part of the exam, and the top scores on the essay have the interview. I’m not sure how long that process lasts because our dates were pushed back because of Hurricane Matthew.
anyone heard anything yet?
@mose4242 I haven’t so I just assumed I didn’t move on to the next round
what state are you from @QMusic
@mose4242 South Carolina
Has anyone from Massachusetts heard anything?
From what I’ve seen all states decide on the delegates today. Past applicants have found out anytime from tomorrow to like the end of December. Some states send emails, some send snail mail and some send both
Yes. I applied last year as well as this year, and in Kansas students find out via letters in the mail, meaning we all heard around December 16th, which sucked.
I think Dec. 1st is the date they are supposed to notify you. I was selected and just heard today.
I’m applying from California. I tweeted California Department of Education and they let me know that CA delegates will be announced next week.
@Jen2016, what state are you from?

I have the USSYP interview in Mississippi. Does anyone now what questions will be asked or anything about interview day?
