<p>Never heard of it, but that doesn't make it a bad school. Almost all schools' brochures/letters invite people to apply . . . </p>

<p>Not a hoax; they're quite prestigious. One of the most amazing thing about them is the Davis World Scholars Program--which will provide extraordinarily generous scholarships for graduates of these schools at some of the best colleges in the country. It's a pretty remarkable example of philanthropy:</p>

<p>I was sent a brochure, too. The schools looked good. I'm considering applying, but I don't know how competitive admission is. What do you think?
Do you think you could leave your friends and family for an international school? A part of me is saying this'd be fun, but I don't know.</p>

<p>I've heard a lot of good things about United World Colleges. When I was looking at boarding schools someone suggested this to me. Look for it in the archives of the Prep School Admissions Forum.</p>
