I'm enrolled in the College of Arts and Science and noticed that the required units to graduate is 160. I'm also required to take 12 courses in English to become an English major. This may seem like a stupid question, but does the course they're referring to take up one quarter or the entire year? Also, I'm planning to do pre-med. Will my pre-med course units count towards the 160 required units for graduation?

Thanks for your help.

one quarter.. and of course your premed courses will count towards the units for graduation

Thanks for the clarification.

I thought it's 180 units for Engineering only?

uh... nope... as far as i know to graduate from the college of letters and science you have to take at least 180 units

Alright, thanks. I think I misread an article on the UCLA Registrar's website.

curiosity: what if you need to go above the 216 unit cap (i.e. 1. in your junior yr, you decide your major is useless to you and you need to begin a new one, or 2. you wanna triple major or sth crazy like that).

I'm interested in the second option. it seems like i'd have to have around 250 units to do that though. if i petition, what are the chances UCLA will let me go that far beyond the cap under condition 2? i would think if it allows a plausible case like #1 (which it should), ppl could just use it as an excuse for case #2.

and yes, im planning on 5 yrs.
