Units Clarification

Hello everyone,

I currently have 74 semester units at my community college. From what I read, the maximum amount of units that will transfer will be 70 units. Rather than taking summer courses at Berkeley for my two Political Science lower-division prerequisites, which in total are 6 units, I decided to take them at Santa Monica College due to it being cheaper at the community college rate before entering Berkeley for the Fall 2010 semester. Will the maximum amount of units transferred still be at 70? What are your thoughts on this?

Thank you!

70 is still the max. You can use classes to fulfill a requirement, but you won’t get the units towards your degree total. I am 99% sure about this but I would call a Cal rep to confirm.

Yes. There is no limit of how many units you can accumulate at CC; for CC units ONLY will you have no unit cap–4-years are a different story. They will only transfer a maximum of 70 units regardless. Hope that helps!
