I am currently taking community college classes with the hopes of applying to a few UC schools in the fall.
There are 6 community colleges in my district, and everyone has a “home college” but we are allowed to take classes among all of the schools.
Due to some creative scheduling, I have now taken classes from all 6 colleges… meaning that I have 6 different transcripts.
Do you think this will have any impact on my transfer prospects? I am aware that I will need to send transcripts from all 6 colleges to each school I apply to. But will this end up being very confusing to admissions people at, say, UCLA?
Thank you!
many people here have taken classes at several CC. There is no confusion to the adcoms. They look at ASSIST and see what the courses articulate to. You will be fine. And in fact what you’ve done shows initiative and drive, unlike some here that complain “my school doesn’t offer class X” or “I couldn’t get into class Y, it was full” and expect the adcoms to ‘understand’ the missing classes.
No, but you need to pick a primary school where you’ll transfer all of the credits so you can have one coherent IGETC certification. If you send your transcripts as is, you won’t have an IGETC from anywhere, barring you admission to the UCs.
There are 2 CCs in my D’s district and all the courses from both campuses are on one transcript. She only had to send one transcript. It is the same for the neighboring CC District.
We also have 4 city CC’s in our county. One transcript goes with the student to the UC’s. Locations of the schools are listed with the transcript.
I’ve attended 6 or 7 community colleges. 1 was in another state and the rest are in the state I live in now. Despite that, I got into a top program. It won’t work against you, but it will be a pain in the butt when you need to get transcripts as you’ll need to send each school in … unless your district all works together and sends the transcripts out of one office. Ask your school for clarification.
I had transcripts from 5 different schools from all over southern CA. I got to UCLA. No one cares. I think adcoms may even have a little more appreciation for students who are willing to travel to get it done.
Like people have said, IF you want IGETC certification, just send the transcripts from the other CCs to your “home” one and have them certify the IGETC completion.
Also keep in mind sometimes schools want/prefer you to complete certain sequences of classes at a single CC (ie. complete gen. chem at one school, not split chem 1 and 2 between diff schools, etc.). This information is readily found in assist reports, so just check that as well as the UC websites for your major.
Thanks for the advice everyone!
