Do the number of units one takes per semester matter? Who will be looked at more favorably, the person who took 6 units (2 classes) and got a 4.0 or the person who took 5 classes and got a 3.8 (what is that like 4 A's and a B)?

Seriously, anyone can get a 4.0 if s/he is only taking 6 units a semester. Besides, it'll take you FOREVER (about five years) to transfer if you choose to do that.

Oh I'm not the one taking 6 units per semester. I guess I should give the background story to clarify what I'm asking. My friend and I are applying to the same school with the same major but she has a 4.0 while I have a 3.8. I have taken more classes and earned more units overall due to the fact that I've been taking at least 5 classes per semester (I wanted to transfer in 2 years) but she has been taking about 2-3 courses, hence the higher GPA. So I'm trying to figure out whether her having a 4.0 totally overshadows the fact that I've been tackling a heavier course load.

If you like the dull and social-less atmosphere of community college, then by all means, prolong your stay there.

^ wow, read the rest of the post and the OP's response. This person is not asking whether or not s/he should take less units at all. Read.

Thanks grey_syntactics. I read the response above yours and literally went "huh?".

I don't think it matters as they don't factor how hard your classes were, nor how many you took. So if your friend has a 4.0 AND all the pre-reqs and igetc done then she's got a better chance. But like gray said who wants to stay at ccc for 5 years.

the 4.0 will always trump the 3.6. Regardless of course rigor.
