Univ Delaware Nursing School admission

How hard is it to get into the University of Delaware Nursing school?

I don’t have the statistics for UDel, but suspect that they are in line with other competitive nursing programs at about 20%. For example, UMass received 2200 applications for 100 spots. The acceptance rate would be 18% if they accepted 400 applicants to fill those slots. UNH states on their website that they typically receive 1400 applications, accept 275 and plan for a class of 60, translating into a 20% acceptance rate. Salve Regina is higher and states that their typical nursing acceptance ratio is 40%.

For a good shot at being accepted for nursing, find colleges where your stats put you in the top 25% of overall applicants. Plus, demonstrate interest in nursing by volunteering in a hospital, doing an internship or becoming an EMT.

@Cindycs The best way determine is to look at any available data and watch the decisions thread here to see who is admitted and who is not.

You can also call the school and ask if they have specific numbers on nursing admissions. In my experience in this college application process with my daughter, I have found that direct-admit nursing programs are a completely different ballgame from the rest of the school’s admissions.

We were told by Delaware that the SAT score for nursing is about 100 points higher than the rest of the school. So while the school might have a middle 50% SAT of 1150-1330, nursing is probably closer to 1250-1430. It’s like that at a lot of schools we looked at.

Be sure to apply to a couple of schools that are a bit beneath your stats, because that’s where you will stand out in admissions. Beware that the chances you might see for yourself at a school on websites like cappex and Parchment are actually going to be totally different for nursing. My daughter was denied at schools that she had an 82% and 94% chance of admission in general, because she was applying to nursing. (admitted to satellite campuses instead for both schools)

She WAS admitted to Delaware though, with a 1290 SAT, 4.1 GPA (but junior and senior year closer to 4.7), rigorous curriculum and really outstanding extracurriculars. For her reach schools, she was denied at one, admitted to one (yay! The school only has a 30% admit rate!), and deferred from another.

Good luck!

We heard this weekend at an admitted students tour that nursing is the hardest major to get into at Delaware and the admit rate is only 24%. Much lower than the school’s overall rate.

They end up with a class of about 175.
