I am probably one of 3 applying for arts from my school. So i wasn't as informed as a normal art applicant.... so my list was well researched but not well enough since I didn't have the right advice.... so it ended up being :
Ringling
California. Coll. of Arts.
NYU Tisch
Yale (a long shot)
RISD
SVA
Pratt
SCAD (safety)
UArts
Parsons
KCAI
Art Center

I've got into a few already. I'm going in for Photography. Very very sadly I missed out on 3 amazing (which I realized after I sent my apps) schools being RIT, SAIC, and MassArt......

So this is some advice to anyone applying.... research like hell. Don't go by ranks in books and websites.... really really dig in for the best, because I missed out on some absolutely fabulous institutions sadly.... which I deeply regret...

Is it too late to apply to those three schools? If not, go for them.

If the deadlines have already passed, then there's no point in dwelling on "missed" opportunities; just remember that you might not have gotten into them anyway. Instead, focus on the schools where you do get accepted to find the one that's right for you.

Looking at your list, if you've been accepted into some of those schools already, you do have some excellent choices -- ones that are just as good as, and in some cases perhaps even better than, the three you didn't apply to.

Could you withdraw 3 apps, and replace with the ones you want? Why woiul a school limit you to 12 anyway??? (not that 12 isn't plenty -- but still...)

Its not about deadlines, I'm going in for Fall 2008.

No, our school allows us to SEND 12 applications. Most people send out 10 because we hardly have the time to finish 12 with exams every 2-3 months and constant tests and ECs which sometimes keep us in school till 1 in the morning (we work on a lot of productions and projects).

I think my list is nice, definitely, I'd like to go to any of them, some obviously more than others. But the thing is I'd choose SAIC over SCAD any day.

//No, our school allows us to SEND 12 applications. //

Scratching my head...what does your school have to do with ahow many apps you send out? How and why should they impose any limitations or restraints? Is it simply a matter of limiting transcript requests? Otherwise what part do they play in the process? That sounds weird to me.

Well with 120+ students, each having 12, only one admissions counseller, lots of things to be signed by headmistress and principal, its a lot of work for everyone. And we have lots of rich kids in our school whom, if didn't have a limitations, would b sending out 25+!

Most of us don't need more than 12 anyways. I guess you can make a special request and all that but I think after reading a bit more about comparisons between my schools and the ones I missed out on, I'm fine. Plus I saw that although many people "claim" that RIT is the best and all that, its not an art school, it doesnt show up in art school rankings (well the ones I've checked) it isn't as recognized abroad as it is in USA (I'm going to be heading back to India) and it isnt accredited by that group of 35 art schools (the Ivy league of art schools).

Now don't argue with me here, I may be wrong, and I know I'm talking to a lot of RIT praisers, so please, thats just my opinion lol....
And SAIC doesn't offer enough specialization, and MassArt could be a "you pay for what you get" type affair.
