Univ of Houston-Main Campus Vs. UT-Arlington for Computer Science

I have been admitted at both with scholarship and the costs are comparative (UH is slightly more expensive by 2.7k). Would be nice to receive feedback so that I can make up my mind.

bump…

UT Arlington is largely a commuter campus and also with a large international population. I would think University of Houston might be a more traditional campus experience. Does that make a difference to you?

I say UT Arlington … it’s more affordable.

I am currently attending UT Arlington and from personal experience, I would NOT reccomend coming here. For starters, the counselors are notoriously unhelpful- instead of helping, they tend to make situations more confusing. The social life on campus is nonexistent considering that this is a huge commuter school. On the weekends, it is not uncommon to not see anyone. The only social outlet on campus would be the limited Greek Life, but if you’re considering a budget that may not even be an option for you. Nearly everyone I met considers this school a “pit-stop”, and is planning on transferring out as soon as possible (myself included). The only majors that they are notable for are nursing and engineering, however the nursing program is so competitive that you must maintain a high GPA to even be considered. From personal experience, I would go to UH because you’ll get more bang for your buck.

@advent UT Arlington has a good CS program because it’s offered in the engineering school which is one of the top schools at UTA. But yes the campus life isn’t as big as some other state schools but it’s not terrible … I think it’s a perfect fit for some people. There’s always something going on on campus to be honest … UTA is growing and improving rapidly. I say go, iUTA is a reputable university. Plus there’s like 1,000 student orgs on campus … you don’t have to pledge to meet new people or make friends. Visit and take a tour and make your decision.

@NuScholar … I remember you are from TSU and reading somewhere that you loved UH when you were considering schools. Are you saying CS at UH is not on par becuase it is not part of the Cullen College of Engg…?
