Reflection
I go to a top high school in suburban NYC. Over the past 3 years, every applicant from my school with a 3.5 gpa or higher was accepted except 1 who had a 24 ACT.

Accepted! Freshman connection, in state, letters and sciences.

3.62U, 4.14W
1380 SAT
27 ACT
Rank: 126/About 300 (Very competitive)
White male

5 AP junior and senior year (3 on Macro exam, 4 on Micro)

Can’t tell you whether or not my essays/short answers were good to other people, but I thought they were.
Good teacher recommender.

Really worried my poor ACT score could’ve made me be declined, but it all worked out.

So excited!!! Woohoo!! Congrats to all of my other fellow acceptees!

] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:Deferred by Princeton ERA, accepted to Georgia Tech EA

My decision box isnt coming up. It only says “check submission” and “checklist”. I never got an email and I applied for priority. Did this happen to anyone else? Did anyone’s just recently show up? Are the decision letters coming in waves?

@caitlinisacutie
Yes, this happened to me as well. The website is being extremely slow, just keep the page loading and the other 2 buttons should pop up eventually right under “check submission” and such. It took like 5-10 minutes for that extra pop-up to happen for me, which is ridiculous, but UMD is huge so we just have to deal with it.

Reflection
Strengths: My essay was unique as it described intense extenuating circumstances, my recommendations were fantastic, my counselor knew me personally and my teacher had a hard time pairing down the six-page recommendation he initially wrote for me into one page.
Weaknesses: SAT and GPA, both very under the median.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was rejected because of my SAT and GPA
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Towson and Mount St. Mary’s University

General Comments: Can’t say I was surprised about my rejection, I was ready for it, I still had hope though. I respect the admission committees choice.

I’ve been looking at these results threads since freshman year. Figured that it was only natural I make one now!

Subjective:

  • [li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):[/li]My most significant ones -
    - Founder, president of a enrichment initiative in the natural sciences for middle schoolers in my school’s area. Program saw unprecedented growth from when I founded it my junior year (3 members + math centered + 1 middle schooler) to where it’s at now (14 members + lessons in math, phys, chem, and bio + >30 signups per lesson). Seeing it evolve over the past two years has been an amazing experience. I hope to get involved in something like this in college. i*
    - Founder, co-president of Physics Club i: the center of competitive physics at my school—organized the annual administration of the F=ma, UWaterloo SIN, and PhysicsBowl exams; hold review before AP Physics C tests; invite guest speakers in the field to give talks.
    - A-team co-captain of Academic Team i
: y’all know the drill. Run practices, gather study materials, write grants for funding, etc.
    - Student Ambassador for my school’s Admissions Department i: speak at panels/give tours at prospective student visit weekends, host shadow students, represent my school to the public.
    - Orchestra i
: violist in my school’s highest level orchestra; All-Region both years; performed in a wedding quartet.
    [
    ] Job/Work Experience:
    - I worked at a fragrance shop in my town’s mall full-time summers before 10, 11, 12 and part-time during 10.
    [] Volunteer/Community service:
    - Peer tutor for AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, and Writing i*
    - Taught computer science to local BGC students using the SCRATCH language i*
    - Volunteered in the children’s room of my city’s library i*
[li] Summer Activities:[/li]- Astrophysics research internship i*: I conducted cosmology/high-redshift astrophysics research at the University of South Carolina. What a time—the experience definitely solidified my interest for physics. My mentor ended up writing a supplementary recommendation for me which from the looks of it definitely ended up having some clout.

Reflection

  • [] Strengths: Scores, extracurriculars, lots of leadership, clear passion for physics
    [
] Weaknesses: Tbh my essay felt kind of rushed and constrained by the 500-550 word limit. But, apparently they liked it enough to give me honors.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: See strengths
    [
] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Found out last week that I was a Top Scholar at University of South Carolina! Waiting on Harvard, Brown, Penn, Dartmouth, Duke, Northwestern, Vandy, Hopkins, and WashU.

General Comments: I’m honestly stoked. I’m going for the Banneker/Key Scholarship, and getting into Honors means I’m at least in the running! Though I would normally give some advice at this point, I honestly don’t feel like it atm because it’s 2:30 in the morning. There’s a bunch of good stuff for you guys to look at not only here on CC (if you look past the swaths of toxic/misguided/overly-stats-focused ppl here) but especially on the ApplyingToCollege subreddit. Good luck!

Reflection
[ *] Strengths: High academics and great at writing.
[ *] Weaknesses: SAT score. Definitely the SAT score. Oh and also activities.
[ *] Why you think you were accepted: I believe I was accepted due to my high academics and my essay. Obviously it wasn’t my SAT score. I thought I would break 1300, but I ended up not getting there. I did however try very hard my junior year and this first semester of senior year–my grades were great, but not perfect. I wonder why exactly they accepted me, looking at this whole list of intelligent individuals with a lot of experience and activities. I am definitely grateful for this.
[ *] Where else were you accepted: UMBC, JMU, George Mason U (honors college), Salisbury U
