Univ. of Rochester versus U. chicago..........lets pair these two universities together, find similarities, differences in all aspects..at the end, which is better?

U Chicago is a better school with more going on, a better city, and better academics...but there's a school for everyone i suppose

The U of Rochester is a very solid school but doesn't have the national reputation or intellectual resources as U of Chicago. However, you can get a very good reputation at U of Rochester. Both schools tend to attract serious students, but pull from somewhat different geographic areas.

exactly carolyn, i don't think you can really compare these schools for other things besides aid and the social atmosphere.

I don't see the schools as being comparable at all. I will say that Rochester is an amazing school -- I'm actually in the process of planning my first visit right now -- and it's unfortunate that it doesn't have the same name recognition as the University of Chicago.

I have lived in Rochester my whole life and it's no Chicago, but its a great city and you can definitely find lots to do here. I know some very satisfied and successful U of R alumni. I don't know anything about U of Chicago, though, so I can't really compare them. U of R is a great school, though, definitely check it out. Just hope that you like snow :)

One similarity: they both are members of the same athletic conference, the University Athletic Association. It's a fairly young conference, mid 80's I think, and all the members (others are CMU, CWR, Emory, Brandeis, WashU) have Div 3 sports, are in or near an urban area, have a research/grad school component, and are national in terms of draw and prestige.

NYU is in the conference too. Hopkins was also, but dropped.

Big difference: Chicago -- Core classes

Rochester -- No core

U Chicago!!!!!
