Univ of Texas vs Georgia Tech vs Purdue for Computer Science

My S was admitted to all 3 schools, but it turns out the admission was for the School of Undergraduate Studies at UT. He is in the CS programs at the other two schools. We are OOS for all three. UT has a highly ranked and exciting CS program but the Undergraduate Studies part is disappointing since he wouldn't be able to take CS courses right away or participate in the department functions for at least the first semester. Sort of a second class citizen with no guarantee that you can get in later. Does anyone have any advice? Thoughts on the strength of the CS program at Purdue? Campus life at Georgia Tech? Thanks!

GA Tech seems your best choice for CS–ranked at 5, which is better than UT or Purdue.

Last time I checked, Georgia tech was ranked 10th and UT was ranked 8th. That’s not a very large jump however. I would go to tech since your son could immediately start taking CS classes there, and he will still be getting a fine education.

Georgia Tech is definitely better than Purdue. Since, you weren’t accepted directly into computer science you might want to scratch UT-Austin off that list. Georgia Tech seems to be the best and safe bet.
