Univerisities placing students in med schools

Hey,

Does anyone know which universities have the highest acceptance rate into med school? (ex. a lot of students from university x get accepted to med schools) If anyone has these stats please share. Thanks in advance.

If by acceptance rate, you mean those premed-students who apply to med-school and actually get in, quite a few lower-tier schools boast of rates that are close to 100%. Of course, for those schools, the meaning of that statistics is dubious at best, for they boost that statistic by basically only allowing their very best students to apply to med-school in the first place. If the school doesn't think you're going to get in, the school will basically prevent you from applying, usually by withholding the "Dean's certification letter" or other such official memorandum that if you don't have, you cannot apply. Other schools will conveniently only count their special BS/MD students and say that 100% of those students get into med-school. That really means little because those BS/MD students were essentially guaranteed admission to med-school when they were incoming freshmen, as long as they complete the BS part of the program. So to say that 100% of these students who complete the program get into med-school is really nothing more than a tautology. Yet that's what some schools will do to make their stats seem impressive.

As far as 'legitimate' acceptance rates (i.e. rates of schools that don't play the above games with their stats), the highest rates would, unsurprisingly, be at the usual suspects - Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and the like. Premeds from those schools who apply to med-school get in at a percentage rate usually in the low 90's.

Of course, the REAL statistics that nobody really knows for sure is the % of students who get into med-school compared to the number of students who want to actually go to med-school, and that's not the same thing as the statistic above, not be a long shot. The fact is, plenty of people at all schools want to go to med-school but never apply, for the simple reason that they don't think they will get in. Their grades are too low, or their MCAT's are too low, or they don't have the EC's, or whatever. So they never apply. Some guys with straight C's would kill to get into med-school, but they're not going to apply because they know they have no chance in getting in.

Hmmm...so sad.
