New thread for parents with kids bound for UCF in the Fall of 2015.
I’ll add in, it’s a thread worth supporting*. I am still trying to convince my kid to consider UCF as an option. She is a NMF still waiting (hoping) for the wave of April 1 decisions from the privates, but as a former Orlando-an tranplanted to the midwest, I’m happy to see that UCF has made such great strides since I left in the late 80’s (when it was considered a commuter school not in the same academic league as UF or FSU) but thanks to its support for National Merit, I would consider it a contender, and with a little more high tech, I would consider Orlando to be a contender to become Florida’s preeminent city.
(* but fix that typo in the topic headline if you can)
My son was told today he is confirmed as a NMF and he is headed to UCF in the fall. We are really excited with all of the opportunities they offer!
My son is very interested in UCF, but hasn’t been able to visit yet. We’ll go in March. The NM package is outstanding, and there are so many great things about the school, both from a student-life perspective and academics.
We have been several times already, and it seems to me, compared to all of the other college visits we’ve made, that UCF wrote the book on how to do it right with NMFs. We are super-excited that DS will be attending there, and they seem to have gone a long way toward making the whole college experiece work well for them.
UCF is a strong contender for my D. We visited USF a few times and she liked it, but it doesn’t seem that they are as strong in the courses she wants as UCF. We’ve only been able to visit UCF when classes weren’t in session so far, but she liked it then. She’s just concerned it will feel too crowded, but USF didn’t. Hopefully we can visit again in the next couple weeks! They want her to sign up for orientation, but you have to put down your enrollment deposit for that!
Did you visit USF also? How would you compare them and what made your kids choose UCF?
