Does someone know universities that give full ride financial aid for international students who score perfect SAT score and have "good" academic and extracurricular track record? Any help is appreciated.

I specifically wanted to know for international student’s case.

What are you considering to be a “full ride”?

Full ride scholarships often only cover tuition, room, board, and maybe books and fees. However, they don’t usually cover “personal expenses”, transportation (local and int’l), insurance, and misc costs. These uncovered costs will still cost the student several thousand dollars.

So, even if an int’l were to receive a “full ride” scholarship, he still would have to show that he has the several thousands in funds to cover those uncovered expenses.

So, how much can this student pay?

As for possible schools: Troy Univ, UA Huntsville.

It sounds like you are looking for merit awards only. Is this because your family earns too much to be considered for institutional need based aid? If so, how much can they contribute?

However I am not looking for only merit scholarship but anything that would help me finance my education. Any suggestion on how if someone has been through this earlier.

@mom2collegekids first of all thanx to reply - By full ride i mean everything except travel + personal + miscellaneous expenses - these i shall cover up with loans or borrowing somehow…but rest is in serious need to be covered by financial aid. Can you suggest me some universities that you think I should apply to.

you have two types of schools to apply to:

Tippy top schools that give full need to int’ls who are low income.

Much lower ranked schools that give full rides to int’ls. Look at: Miss State, UAHuntsville, Troy

There are some mid-tiers that will give your full tuition, but you’d have to also cover room and board.

what is your intended major?

UAH no longer offers the full ride for non-residents.

Louisiana Tech is probably the best school offering a full ride strictly based on stats - but I don’t know if it’s open to internationals or not.

@mom2collegekids : my intended major is aerospace engineering. Hey, thanx once again to coming up with an answer, can you please specify a few colleges under naming “TIPPY TOP” and “MID TIERS”. Thanx once again.

UAH doesn’t have a full ride listed, but with his stats and an eng’g degree, he should still apply and see what’s offered that isn’t assured. Eng’g has its own awards that stack on top.

Troy doesn’t have eng’g.

The tippy top schools would be the ivies, MIT, Stanford, etc.

The mid-tiers that give full tuition scholarships to int’ls with your stats are more limited. Alabama would give your full tuition plus 2500 per year. This would be an award of over $100k. Apply when the school app and the scholarship app goes Live in July.

Lower ranked schools, like Louisiana Tech or Miss State may give you more money.

There just arent’ as many “free rides” for stats anymore, and even less for int’ls.

First of all, please understand that “full ride” does not always mean that. Harvard, for example, is most generous in terms of financial aid, and to them "full ride’ still means a student/family has to come up with about $4K or so, don’t know the exact number.

There are some very nice merit awards that cover just about everything. Duke has some as does Davidson, Emory, UNC has the Morehead, UVA the Jefferson Scholars, Wake Forest, the Reynolds, to name a few. So, yes, there are some awards out there that cover full tuiton, room, board, and maybe even a stipend for other costs as well. You can go through the lists and see what we have, but they do change regularly. Most of them are very difficult to get, require a separate app process, and you do have to make sure that international students are also included. For the ones I’ve seen, they are. The awards change over time, so you have to check out what the current situation is. UPittsburgh, used to give a lot of them out and the SAT was the cut off. Now there aren’t as many, and the SAT is only one factor used, it is far more competitive, but, yes, they still offer the Chancellor’s award.

You would do well to look at some schools off the beaten path as well, since the competition may not be as keen to get some of those awards. I’m talking about schools like the Cleveland State, for example, or SUNY Oswego. Too many kids go only after the low hanging fruit and not search for what’s hidden.

@mom2collegekids - I don’t have any kind of international olympiads because my school didn’t had any such facility … do you think being an international student Ill be any match to those with such appreciable qualification while applying at ivies… I do have few good EC’s but only few which is often remarked upon by my peers here as " How Do you so many things at once" However If I apply to ivies I feel that I lag behind in the race… what do you suggest should I do?

@cptofthehouse - My family has six members and only one earning member and my brother will be joining an institute next year so it would really be burden on my father with his annual income of 14k usd p.a…!!!
