Universities where I may receive merit aid?

I am expanding my list to include universities where I may be eligible to apply for (that may or may not be full tuition or full ride). I am a prospective chemical engineering major with 32 ACT, 3.68 UW gpa and good ECs. I have already looked at schools where I'd receive automatic aid but I have not looked much into competitive aid or merit aid that may not be full tuition. I am planning on applying to a competitive 16k/yr scholarship at an instate U, its minimum requirements being 31 ACT and 3.7 GPA. No idea what the average winner had and frankly I have had no luck finding out that info. Would e-mailing FinAid office at schools that offer these competitive scholarships be the best way to find out the average stats?

When I look at the lists of competitive full tuition / full ride scholarships, many of them claim to have no minimum requirements, however the average winner would have drastically higher statistics than my own. I say this because I look at some popular universities on CC where scholarship winners post their stats but I can never seem to find any within my league. So, I am worried whether or not it would be worth applying to these. I want to find some competitive full tuition scholarships to apply to but I do not really have any idea on which ones would be worth my time (meaning ones where I'd have a reasonable chance of receiving it instead of trying to hit a dart on a board 100 miles away). Don't want to do a bunch of scholarship applications for nothing.

Thanks for the help

Try to compare your GPA and scores with the admission stat of schools. Look for those schools that you are at least at or above the 75th percentile.

Give a peek at the University of Delaware. They give love to many chemistry folks.

OP, you’ve been around here long enough that you know about the pinned threads at the top of this forum. Have you been through those?

Yes, in fact I have many times: they’re bookmarked! However I am having trouble finding actual data that would make it worth for me to apply to these competitive scholarships. Even though I may meet the minimum requirements to apply to certain competitive scholarships I feel I would not really have a shot at them because the average winner would have much higher stats. Certain scholarships at less popular unis on CC don’t have many people who win these scholarships posting their stats on here so I hesitate to waste time applying for a scholarship I may not even have a chance for (not to mention the “no requirements” to apply ones)

I remember this post, thank you !

If you are looking for competitive full ride or full tuition merit, then your stats need to be in the upper 2-5% of the school unless you have some other very desirable hook…performance, talent, ethnic diversity, etc.

Are you applying to any schools that will give you ASSURED merit for your stats? If so, which ones? As you probably already know, as a ChemE major, Alabama would give you full tuition PLUS 2500 per year. My son was a ChemE major at Bama…the dept and facilities are very good.

Yes I have already looked at schools that would give me merit aid. Rolla has a calculator on their website and I’d get 10k / yr there automatically. Alabama would give me money too and I also like UAH.
