University Academic Scholars Program

My D received a very nice second mailing dated December 19 besides the acceptance and honors notification. She was informed that she was accepted into Miami's inaugural University Academic Scholars Program. All the benefits of the program were described including a $2,000 scholarship that is specific to this program and is in addition to other merit scholarships for which she may qualify. It went on to say that in the following days she will receive a letter containing a comprehensive list of all merit scholarships that she has been awarded.

Congratulations! Did your D apply EA or ED?

Thanks. She applied EA and has the stats for a guaranteed merit scholarship.

Hi, what were your daughters stats to get the scholars invite ? That sounds wonderful.

Can you give a thumbnail of your D’s key stats? Our S also got into the muohio Honors College but he’s closer to the 3.7 end of the grade range - albeit with really tough courses at a top HS - than the 4.0 end. I’m wondering if this is for kids at the top of the range that they’ve been promoting for the automatic half/full tuition scholarship for applicants in the >3.7/>32 ACT/rigorous classes cadre.

My son also was accepted into this program and received the $2,000. His stats are:

GPA-3.9 unweighted/4.33 weighted
ACT-34
EC’s-Class President, Varsity Basketball, National Honor Society, Student Council VP, Mock Trial
SAT subject tests-700

His packet also mentioned merit scholarships will be sent in the next few days. He did not apply ED or EA. wondering if he will qualify for more merit as well…

Update to last post…my son just got a letter saying he received $62,400 in merit (which includes the $2,000 award). We are in-state so this covers full tuition if I am reading everything correctly. Hope this helps!

My sons stats are a bit lower…32 ACT ,but a similar GPA. I’m sure it isn’t full tuition, but hopefully something more than half tuition. Did your letter come in the mail or an email?

@madeline12-it came in the regular mail (today).

D’s stats are high with a 35 ACT (superscore) and a couple of 36 subscores. She also has experience with Miami as she partipicated in their Junior Scholars Program and took two classes on campus over the summer.

Didn’t receive the letter today. Told D to check the mail tomorrow.

I got $128,000-something in merit aid. My ACT score is 34, which probably helped, but my GPA, well, isn’t that good in comparison. Maybe they liked my essays.

How does this program differ from honors?

From the website

Interesting. My child received 116,000 OOS scholarship, along with an Honors invitation…no mention of the Academic Scholars, though.
