Our d19 also was accepted to ES/DPT program. As an in state student it is the best financial option right now. Plan on visiting in March. She worries about distance and weather
I happen to be a PT so I know about the field and the education part. If you want to get a really good idea about how the process of getting accepted to a PT school google āPTCAS application data reportā. The PTCAS is a centralized application that most PT schools use (sort of like the common app for PT schools) This report is amazing because it breaks everything down for who applied and who was accepted, what major people applied with vs what major they were accepted with, what school applicants received their undergraduate degree from vs. their acceptance rate etc. If you have time to look at it (it will take a good chunk of time to fully digest and see what you are looking for) it can really help your daughter make an informed decision. Based on the report (and my experience as a PT) I can tell you that the major your daughter picks will not be the most important choice (you will see a higher percentage of applicants with a performing arts degree were accepted than those with a physical therapist assistant degree-comparing the number who applied to the number admitted). Almost all schools (aside from UB as they have some specifics you can only receive at UB) have very similar prerequisites and they allow students to get an undergraduate degree in anything that interests them as long as they also satisfy the prereqs. That actually makes for a really great diverse group of PTās in most graduate programs! As far as UB vs Oneonta it looks like UB had 35% of their undergrad who applied be accepted into at least one DPT program, where Oneonta 47% of theirs. Of course if your daughter is a good student and meets all the prereqs that will significantly raise her chances of getting in well above the averages. Hope this helps! I am not sure how to do personal messages on this but it you know how and want to ask me more questions Iād be glad to help.
Thank you for the details. Iām starting to look at PTCAS application data report, and it is a lot of info. But Buffalo, while of course APTA accredited, doesnāt participate, as far as Iāve read, in PTCAS applications. So that 35% is just from those who applied elsewhere? I donāt think it counts those who were accepted from UB undergrad.
@downpourblue great point! I think that is also true for the other schools listed that have automatic freshman admission programs. Probably only those that did not meet the standards for auto admit (or really didnāt like the school) will be applying elsewhere so that lowers the strength of their applicants and factors into a lower acceptance rate. Overall though I find the report to be helpful. Best of luck in your daughter making a great decision. I think the most important factor is for her to find the school she feels she fits in at and the major she is most passionate about while focusing on the PT prerequisites and getting high grades in those. Those thing will allow her build the strongest transcript and give her the best chance for admission into the graduate school of her choice.
That sounds wise. But youāre a PT and your Ds chose Buffalo, so thatās a point in its favor :-). And there is a streamlining of the program that I still think may be worth it to consider UB. And Iāll pass along these points of consideration. But this is my Ddās decision ultimately and Iāll guide but (try) not to push.
My S who was accepted before Christmas has not received any information in the mail yet. Heās international so that may be the delay. He has a UB person number, but he doesnāt know where to sign in with it. He still doesnāt know if he was accepted into the engineering dept. Where will it say that?
@spqr70nj So which school does your son want? Mine has been accepted to CU and Udel. Still waiting on a few including VT. But UB is first choice. He loved it on our visit. Weāre international so no cheap schools for us and no way to meet potential roommates. Do you know which dorms are available to freshman on N campus. What about a car first yearā¦handy or a pain?
Send an email to the admissions department and ask. That is what my son did to confirm he was accepted direct into aerospace engineering.
Has anyone received a financial aid letter yet?
@AJC no, I need it ASAP cause some of the local/regional scholarships Iām applying for needs them.
No financial letter here either, yet.
No financial aid letter yet here. I am eager to hear.
Just accepted class of 2023 for engineering!
Stats:
GPA: 4.2 weighted
SAT: 1480
ACT: 33 (34 Superscored)
Application submitted on scholarship deadline (12/15). Now letās just see about that financial aid!
Dd received a nice group email welcoming her to the school of public health and health sciences. Still no financial aid info. Decisions looming!
received email from Jacobs school and medicine and biomedical sciences welcoming me.
I spoke to financial aid yesterday and they said the packets wouldnāt come until the end of March. That makes things more difficult for final decisions.
@KingOfTheNorth Where else are you considering? Which dept in eng?
@goteam2 Has your son decided where to go yet?
@thessaly1 I am mostly looking at Rice and Northeastern, but I also applied to Binghamton and Cornell. I applied for admission into the aerospace program, however I eventually want to transition into the business side of engineering so Iām considering a minor in that area.
@KingOfTheNorth Good Luck!!! Those are all great schools!
