i got the pride of ny and provost too!
My daughter too applied EA and got admitted in November. Last week she got a mail asking her to fill up a scholarship form with an essay by February 01 and it said that admitted students who send in the filled up form by 1 Feb will hear about their scholarship by Feb 06th. The scholarship form also had questions about the total number of schools she has applied to and which ones have awarded her a merit scholarship. We were a bit puzzled since we submitted the application, nothing of the sort was mentioned. Is this usual for UB to do this and has anyone here also got such an email?
My daughter never received anything like that. At least I am not aware of it. She filled out the applications on her own.
Out of state - rcvd our letter today $10k per year - Provost Scholarship!
@carolcamille22 Was the letter hard copy or an email notice?
Snail mail letter
Did the provost and pride of NY come together in same letter or separate? My son got the pride of NY today.
My son just received the Provost Award in the mail. Totally wasn’t expecting it since we are out of state. UB is my alma mater and I got nothing when I went years ago. Anything helps! ??
We just got our scholarship news too. Provost and Pride of New York. Came together in the same letter. 5k per year. This pretty much solidifies that he is going to UB.
Son got Provost and Pride of NY, $5K per year, by letter in the mail on Friday. Very happy!
@thessaly1 I think there are pros & cons to both living facilities. My daughter loves being in Governers, but hasn’t been anywhere else. Any student that I have spoken to, LOVES being at UB! They all seem to find their fit no matter where they are housing. Governers has smaller rooms and less dining choices, but much closer to classes and a “smaller” feel. There are about 800 students there. She loves it because she is in honors housing and has found students like herself- very focused on academics, but like to be involved in activities that don’t involve off campus parties.
@biomedical2023 Did you join that FB group? I told my son to but they haven’t responded yet. Just wondering if many people are on there yet? It will be hard to find a roommate…it doesn’t seem UB potentials are very active on these type forums. Have you gotten much feedback from UB? Pretty quiet from them even from before the snow. The other universities are sending out so much info and accepted student days, etc.
@thessaly1 I haven’t joined the group, I heard theres about 451 members in it (idk if true). Their phones been off due to a “service interruption” so I couldn’t contact them. I believe accepted students day is in April.
@mitchey Hi and thank you for your dorm feedback. I have a weird question. Could you tell me approximately how big the hang up space is in the closet? We are overseas and want to plan what winter clothes to bring that there will be room for. Hard to plan for that type of cold when you’re not used to it. Other advice on what to bring for the dorm?
@thessaly1 there is a pdf of what to bring to campus. I’ll be happy put a link.

Thank you @biomedical2023
DD was accepted recently. We have not had the chance to visit UB as of yet because it’s further out for us than other schools (6-7 hour drive). Having said that, today I was looking at some online stuff, and it seemed to insinuate that Buffalo had a lot of students living off campus, and a lot of students commuting or leaving on the weekends. Is it because it’s partly in the city, and so a lot of students are in off campus apartments?
@HankCT Congrats to your daughter! We visited over the summer and since it’s out of the city (north campus) it had a real campus feel. I think most freshman live on campus and get involved in campus activities. My son will be living on campus for sure next fall. What major is she?
@thessaly1 Her current major target is Env Science.
Hey guys, I’m deciding between SUNY at Buffalo and UMass. What do you think?
