Hey so I decided Im going to attend UB as an EOP student. I absolutely love the school but I just don't know what to expect. Im coming from NYC, is there anything aside from colder weather I should be prepared for? Things I should bring?

Well unlike regular students, you pay no tuition as well as gain extra grants for being in EOP. You get benefits like free tutoring, a head start by attending the school’s summer program and being familiar with the atmosphere. And lets say you go into a school with EOP that you might not like so much, your EOP is transferable, meaning once your in, they cant take you out.

Hello Nishi25, I would like to ask if you know whether or not EOP students have to stick together throughout the 4 years or are we splitting up after the summer program and becoming one of the ‘regular’ students except with special benefits as you’ve listed. I am still debating whether or not to go into EOP, especially since I haven’t received my financial aid packet yet. A little more information may help my last few days of deciding where I should go! Anyone who can help please answer as well.

Hi Nishi25, I will be attending Ub as EOP student as well, we’ll see each other in the summer
btw, I am from NYC too!! Did you get the list of to do things?? There is like a million things to do!

Skljbum, you should contact financial aid office asap!!! Even through I am in EOP, I still have to pay a little over 11000/yr. One of the main reason I choosed Ub is because of EOP, if I don’t feel like Ub is for me, and transfers, I’ll still be in the program.

@sldjbum EOP students aren’t like a class that goes and moves up together all four years. Its just freshman year we take some study courses together but its not that serious work. And rejecting an amazing school like this especially for EOP is a really silly decison. I ended up gettiung an extra $2000 grant just for being in EOP. Plus unlike regular students I dont have to pay for tuition or housing. PLUS being in EOP gives you a head start on your classes, so basically you’re given a chance to stay ahead of the game. You really should call UB’s financial aid to find out since the deadline to notify whether you’re going or not is on 5/1. They might give waitlisted students your spot. @jqqq14: Omg yes! Everything is done and Im just really excited right now to see what we have yet to do. It is a lot of work but its worth it in the end. Are you taking the free round trip bus?

@Nishi25 When you say “I dont have to pay for tuition or housing,” do you mean the deposit money? Because I haven’t heard anything about not having to pay for tuition or housing for EOP students. (It sounds really good though!)

As EOP students, a deferment for our housing is send along with our acceptance letter, and just needed to fill out a “intend to enroll form” online. The tuition and housing is said to be “deferred”. I hope they don’t charges us later. Fingers crossed

Nishi25 - Yes!! I’ve never visited the campus before, I’m not trying to be lost getting there in the summer. Ub actually just received my housing deferment today, I still haven’t picked my room selections. I can’t wait for summer!!!

@skiljbum: Yeah, Im sorry I wasn’t specific. We don’t pay the deposit money for either and we don’t pay until a much later date. Which isn’t so bad considering we’ll be working part-times, getting internships, and all these opportunities to build up cash as years go by.
@jqqq14: Oh my god, me neither but its kinda exciting not knowing. I think they received mine too they just sent me a paper via mail giving me housing conditions/agreements. But Im psyched with just the fact that we get to go away and experience a suburban college life (: I was getting sick of the city anyways! Are you majoring in biomed?

Same thing I was thinking, I didn’t want to live my life whole life in nyc. Not that its bad, but I want to be independent and have peace and quiet for once. You would never guess my major… My plan is to stay in buffalo if I like the campus for the first year, if not, back to cuny it is.
On the flip side, what if we don’t like the campus, my friends thinks I’m crazy for being eight hours away, and living in the cold…
I have to accept my financial aid, can’t decide how much loans to take! I don’t wanna be in debt
Btw, its business…

@Nishi25 It’s alright, haha. Thanks for answering my questions! Thank you @jqqq14 as well. My deferment is still sitting at home… Do you guys know if I have to mail it by May 1st or have it be at UB by May 1st? As much as I would love to go to UB, finance is still a big part of my decision. I am currently stuck between UB and Baruch College. Baruch College is free and I get money back, which is SO tempting, but I would love to gain experience at UB that Baruch can’t offer. I already emailed the financial aid office and they just told me that my financial aid packet is on it’s way. May 1st is just around the corner… it’s killing me! :(

@skljbum OMG!!! Baruch was my #1 choice, I would have choose it if they accepted me, since I want to major in business field. But since Ub offered me EOP, I can always transfer back to baruchh sophomore yr or other cuny, and still be in seek program. But right now, I want to experience living in dorms, and away. See how far I can go without my parents… Iike I said, I still need to pay $10000 after grants and scholarship, we’re in the same boat, but its all about how much you’ll spend. Make a budget and stick to it.

To answer your question for housing, they look at the date of the mail, meaning if you mailed it on April 30, they will “consider” that on time. Hope that helped! Good night and hurry up and make the decision already! :)

@jqqq14: Yeah, I was stuck in between choosing UB and Binghamton but Binghamton doesn’t have my Biomed major and then there’s the fact that I was accepted under general admissions since my GPA was too high (where UB also looks at your SATs which i didn’t do too hot on). But the experience and major is what Im going for.

@jqqq14 Oh no, yeah you made the right choice. My friend has the same thing happening to her and its eop for crying out loud, who wouldn’t want to accept it? That’s why she decided she’ll go to Hofstra for the time being.

Thanks @jqqq14! I JUST called the financial aid office and received my financial aid package. And a representative from EOP called as well to answer my previous questions. I believe that I will be joining you guys in the EOP program this summer! Have you guys ever visited UB?
