i was accepted to both of these schools. to be honest, buffalo was my first choice just because i really didn't think i was going to get into geneseo, but i guess i did lol. so now i have these two as my top choices. i like how buffalo is sort of in a city-like area where there's things outside of the school to do, whereas geneseo is middle of nowhere but i suppose the reputation is better? (i'm just going by what everyone says) hopefully i can/will try to go to the "accepted students day" to both of these schools (i haven't visited any of them yet).

which school would be more suitable for me? i'm intending to major in biology with a pre-med/pre-dental track. i also like to do fun activities both in and outside of school. i plan on going to theaters, malls, restaurants and maybe some adventurous stuff; basically just have fun and socialize. however, i'm not really a party type person and i take studies seriously.

Son was also accepted to both schools but ultimately choose UB for engineering. He did visit both and hated Geneseo. Just not for him, not a reflection on the school or campus. Too remote and small for his liking. That is why you should visit both.

Major is also important. While you can major in bio at both, if you decide to major in something else, UB will have more options. (one reason I don’t like LACs.) UB has wonderful and numerous health science fields. Something to consider. Also, just food for thought and something I discussed with my sons, it can be a great idea to major in something you can have a career in just in case you decide not to go to grad school or not to go right away, don’t get in, etc… Nursing, OT, all good undergrad majors (that don’t require grad school) and give you the option of going on to med school, dental school, nurse practitioner, etc…

Good luck to you. You have great schools to pick from and neither will hold you back.

I really recommend visiting Geneseo. Most people I know, including myself, had a love-it-or-hate-it reaction. The schools have very different feels so it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out which is the atmosphere you want-- small LAC or big university.

Academically, however, Geneseo has a much better reputation among people who know it.

A lot of premed students choose Geneseo, they have a good track record for med school. Much of the “partying” is in frats/sororities, but only about 15 percent of the student body is Greek, so there are lots of people who want to do other things. It is a very pretty campus with a gorgeous state park (Letchworth) nearby. Many people drive to the mall in Rochester which is about 40 minutes away.
