Has anyone heard from the financial aid office regarding provost scholarships? If so, when and how much did you receive? Thanks!
I got one last week $3000 a year
Can you tell me what office the Provost letter came from? Meaning Financial Aid, or admissions?
I got one about a week ago as well, $5000 a year. The letter came from the office of admission
Thank you and congratulations!
So it looks like you get a Pride of NY ($3K) or a Provost ($5K), but not both.
I wonder if they figure anyone getting the NYSTEM scholarship only needs ~$3K more to make it free (excluding books and R&B).
I’m not sure - trying to see if they are mutually exclusive but not able to get an official answer.
Separately, the Stem scholarship requires you to spend 5 years in NYS doesn’t it? That is a serious restriction especially for fields that have many more jobs OOS.
My freshman is on the STEM right now and he decided that it was worth signing up for. If he has to pay back the money, then he does. NY is a huge state so if he gets tired of being in the Buffalo area, he can go to NYC, or Syracuse…or wherever. No harm in signing up and just paying back if you decide to leave to state sooner.
Received Pride of NY for $2,500, no Provost award, and do not have STEM (due to choice in major). Perhaps it was based on stats - my daughter had 1340 and 97 GPA. Not sure how that compares with those getting the Provost?
Any thoughts about attending UB are pretty much squashed at this point as my DD and our family have really been “confused” as to how they process applications, send emails to certain individuals and award scholarship money.
It’s a shame because DD applied with the idea of it being a SUNY (we are instate) and keeping costs down while studying in her chosen field (aerospace engineering). And although DD’s stats are impressive, UB really seems to have ignored her. When we finally realized something seemed “off”, and we reached out to UB, their response was pretty generic and ultimately rigid.
3 months from application submission to acceptance (DD was just accepted a few days ago, despite turning in her application mid October!) for a female aerospace engineer major with 1490 SAT (760M, 730V), 35 ACT, 97 UW GPA, several national awards, multiple sport NYS-awarded Varsity athlete, etc…strong essays and rec letters and from a competitive NY high school. She even attended an optional interview in November where the interviewer told me DD was very impressive!
But no emails of any kind whatsoever and no scholarship money. It seems UB doesn’t really want her.
@3XImpossible
Its got to be a mistake. My kid is similar in stats and got in very quick. He got the Pride of NY but not the Provost. A girl with her stats in aero should be a slam dunk. Hope you applied to RPI/WPI. Girls over there are in high demand and the Fin Aid is generous.
