University College Exploratory Studies Program

Does anyone know anything about this program? The NC State website is kind of vague on this.

S applied to the engineering school but was offered admission into this program instead. Can you still apply and get into the engineering school from the UCESP?

Also – if anyone is in this program, can they share their experience. Many thanks!

The exploratory program requires you to take classes in a variety of fields so you can choose your major later. It seems like it would be difficult but not impossible to later be in engineering. First year engineering students have to take and do well in a certain number of CODA classes and then have to apply for their specific engineering major. I wonder if he would have to go through in his second year.

@volleyball2017. Thanks for the explanation. The exploratory program sounds, at best, like engineering purgatory. I think S would have been better just receiving a rejection or put on a wait list. The NC State website says about 1400 freshman enroll in the engineering school (out of 8600 applicants). If NC State takes only 10% out-of-state students, I imagine it’s pretty competitive for an out-of-stater to snag one of those 140 engineering slots. S really liked NC State, but he’s got pretty good options elsewhere.
