University College London Vs. King's College London

I'm on the waitlist for Georgetown but as the likelihood of getting in there is fairly depressing, I must choose between my top two choices for the places I got into in the U.K.

So, yeah. KCL or UCL?

I applied for History at both, but the UCL course is 4 years with the 3rd year abroad, and as such I am leaning towards that.

I was just wanting to hear any other perspectives... In terms of international reputation (ie in the US) which is better? And which is better from the point of view of the students?

Hope someone can help, even though this forum seems mostly for US stuff.

International rep: UCL.

Student view: No idea. UCL's "campus" is nicer and is in a nicer area. Year abroad sounds fun.

UCL is ofcourse better known, rankings aside, it seems to be the one with more int'l repu. but KCL isnt bad either.

If you're really serious about the year abroad, i say just go with UCL, you won't go wrong

International rep: UCL

UK rep: UCL

American high school rep: KCL

US general rep: Neither

Having visited both campuses, I would strongly recommend UCL. UCL's location is simply amazing - bang in the middle of central London and the campus is quite nice too. KCL on the other hand seemed to be quite a run-down location. I just didn't get the same vibe.

As far as academic reputation goes, UCL is far better. Your choice shouldn't be too difficult.

KCL is really central as well. I'm guessing history is in the Strand campus. But UCL is definatly nicer than King's. Although, they have just finished refurbishing many of King's campuses.

Thanks for all the replies... I'm glad to hear that the consensus is on UCL, I was leaning towards them anyway (and I'm very excited about the year abroad thing... Moscow here I come!).

nauru... what do you mean by 'neither' for US general rep? You mean neither are well regarded in the US?

(PS: and I went to high school in the UK, so the American high school rep doesn't matter much to me lol...)

Oh and also... assuming I do well in my first year at UCL ;), would I theoretically be in a good position to apply for transfer to the US (say, to Georgetown)?

Meaning, would being at UCL (compared to other uni's) make it harder/easier to get in? Are UK uni's like UCL well regarded by US uni's? Or would that not count for anything in my favour, making it completely dependent on my performance?

Sorry for taking all your answers and turning them into a million more questions, but I'm a nervous wreck atm (I hate waiting lists!)

I've heard KCL history is sposed to be top notch.

UCL is overall a better university (ie more prestigious) than KCL.

Yeah yeah yeah... UCl might be on a higher academic ranking but in actual sense they are both 2 top univ. KCL on the other hand has a better social scene and a very be-a-utiful campus. I say go with where your heart lies cos they're both top notch univ. I say KCL if you want a more outgoing social kinda life.

Didn't apply to st Andrews or get into Edinburgh :(

I think I made a mistake because for several unis I applied to 'International Relations & History courses' and I didn't get into any of those. I think my UCAS essay was geared more towards history. I got into most of the history courses I applied to tho (ie UCL, KCL and Cardiff).

i would say for US rep UCL.
