University College Program

I got offered this also.

I dont understand how this could be for students who didnt quite get into honors considering I got no merit money from them....?

I didnt get any merit aid either.
My stats are 1940 new 1240 old. 3.78 GPA
SAT II Lit 740 US 740 Math 1 540
Lots of Leadership ECs. Maybe thats a connection?

Anyone else big on leadership stuff that got in?

PS i dont understand why theres nearly 0 info on the site about this program. does anyone else find that weird?

ahh just read that article...i really like the sound of it. and it sounds as if recs had a big say in if you got into this program. anyone agree?

Ya, I got into this program, I thought everyone got into it, but I guess not, so that makes me feel special I guess!

according to the article only 125 got in. thats very special yay!! lol...

^Ya, I just went all over their site for info on this program and could find nothing, but like that news article, odd....

I got accepted to that too and I was like... ummm what? then I came here to see if there was a thread and it was right at the top. unfortunately....I still don't get exactly what it is.

I think our acceptance packages said that we would be receiving a lot of info. about it shortly.

It sounds really appealing to me:)

hmm I'm confused, is it for people considered "above" honors or right below? or something entirely different? it seems like no honors kids also got this invitation

I think it is related to our majors, I'm doing poli sci. I heard there are a lot of internship oppotunities and it's kind of a little public affairs community.

no... i'm a comm major... film and media studies.... maybe it is just like humanities people

I am also a comm major.

i was also accepted into this program. i'm a polisci major. i find it bazaar that there's such vague/lack of info on it.

should this program be a big pull for me to go there? are you guys sold on american, or still waiting for other schools?

i'm still waiting on some schools but right now... american is a not likely b/c of the bad fa offer. I mean... how can there be a 10 K difference in two schools need-based aid.

just called the university college program office. here's the deal..

every frosh was invited to be a part of this program. our letters may have said that we were accepted into the program, but that's not the case. separate apps for the program will be sent out this wk. ultimately, we're going to have to write another essay for it, etc, etc.

it kind of sounds like bs to me. i don't understand why the letter said i was accepted, if there's a possibility that i actually might not be. mmmm....

http://www.american.edu/universitycollege/

Looks like you can also apply.

youngisleturk,

i'm waiting on other schools, and i found out i got into vandy/oberlin today, which i believe have a better national reputation than american, and they gave me more money.

but i dont know...

Nice job Alligal! Vandy is a great school; I have two friend who attend that love it. It's a little too conservative for me but nonetheless it's an excellent school. Does anyone know the acceptance rate to the program? My attending American is contingent on my acceptance to the program because I got into NYU and got a pretty sweet money deal from Sarah Lawrence. It's the college program that piques my interest...

Vandy and Oberlin gave you more money than American? Hmmm...strange...I think it should have been the other way around. However, my friend who got into BC (now waiting on Harvard) got waitlisted from Villanova, so I guess there are just some things that can not be explained.

I got this too, seems pretty exciting. AU has an impressive acceptance package.
