University College Program?

In my letter it says I was admitted to the University College Program to the school of Journalism. I know it’s not the honors program so what is this program specifically?

You can look it up on the school's site- it is a seminar -sounds great

For UC, you live on a floor with your classmates for this class. This class is smaller and taught by a really good professor. There is an upperclassman who did well in the class who will lead you on field trips.

hmm...ok sounds good. Thanks for clearing that up. :) I was just a little confused.

Is it for everyone or just some people

I’ve received my letter of admission over a week ago, it states:

“In addition to this offer of admission, you will soon receive an invitation to join our University College Program, a unique and challenging first year academic experience that combines classroom learning with residence life and exciting opportunities for supervised field work in Washington, D.C. (…) Be on the lookout for more information about this unique program.”

No information as of yet. I’m currently surfing [::American University ::University College](http://www.american.edu/learningcommunities/go/uc/) and trying to figure out which dorms the seminars are offered at, yet so far only have found that “Explorations” is at Leonard.

Since the program is open to all incoming freshmen (I believe?), I figure I do not have to wait to receive any additional info by mail to register.

Yet how does the registration process work with regards to the dorms? Does one fill out the Enrollment and Housing Agreement prior to reserving a space at University College? Are dorm choices (as indicated on agreement) flexible and subject/open to change following admission into a seminar in the University College Program?

I’m a freshman at AU and I did the University College program and I absolutely LOVED it.

Honestly, I don’t know what my first year would be like without it!

I got super close with one of the best professors the school has to offer, got to do awesome things in the city for free (I met Justice Alito), and I made some really awesome friends. I cannot recommend the program more highly!

Wow. That’s awesome tortoe!

tortoe, which seminar did you choose?

How does registering for this work exactly? Can we reserve a space even though we might not attend?

I picked my top three and got into my third choice, Western Legal Traditions. I was really annoyed about it because I would be living on south side, but I ended up loving south side (I’ve opted to stay there for next semester) and the people in my UC. Professor Davies is brilliant, honestly, it is only his second year teaching but he is super smart! I know the girl who will be the PA for the program next semester and she is such a sweet girl who will be super helpful.

And you can drop out of the program if you choose not to do it. I believe that my UC had a student who dropped out of the program a few days before the semester started. Its possible, but I really wouldn’t recommend dropping out at all. Its a REALLY great program and it takes up no extra time. If anything it gives you a huge group of people to study with and brainstorm with.

do you think all the 240 spots are already taken for the University College Program? i know we are late but D wants to visit before register, so she will register on April 25 and i believe it’ll be very late for housing and the seminar?
