i received an email from a university asking whether i am still interested or not. Does this mean something or do they just
send this to each and everyone of their applicants? It is Bucknell University btw.
Probably yield protection. You likely have been accepted and they want to make sure that you have not committed officially or not to another school.
Are you sure that they don’t send this to everyone?
OP, so you haven’t been accepted yet and they are asking if you are still interested? Seems a bit ridiculous to me.
Yes that is what i just said man. The notification date for RD is 29th March and i just got the email today.
My son was deferred EA from Northeastern and received a similar note a few weeks back, along with other kids too.
Good luck, hope it’s a good sign for you.
I got the same note from Northeastern too. Thanks.
They might be trying to see how serious you are, in order to protect their yield. If you were to reply no, they wouldn’t admit you- I would just respond with a yes, and maybe 1-2 sentences about why you like the school.
Yes i sent a reply stating that i really like their university and if admitted i will most definitely enroll.
Agree with @STEM2017 it is ridiculous. No, I don’t believe they are contacting every applicant and it is just a way to protect their yield of students they are planning to admit. Unless some kid has been accepted ED to another school, why would anyone not reply “yes”? Makes no sense. After going through the application process and paying the app fee, all schools should still be on the table.
@paveyourpath if you are applying for aid, are their any cases when they admit you and don’t give you the aid that you have asked for?
I didn’t even reply to NEU email because it was irrelevant to me. Besides, the email gave instructions to go to the portal and click withdraw if you’re no longer interested, so I just didn’t do anything. Maybe it has to do with acceptance rates. NEU is known for caring about ranking a lot so with a lower yield they have to accept more students thus raising the acceptance rate which affects the ranking. Just a thought I had when I was reading an article someone posted on CC.
Nah they asked me to reply for NEU and click on a link if i am interested otherwise withdraw my application for Bucknell.
@Hussainkestrel Absolutely. By aid you’ve asked for you are referring to submitting financial aid documentation or merit scholarships or both? Bucknell will be close to $70K/ yr. Have you run the Net Price Calculator on their site? Bucknell is a profile school so they will determine what they believe to be your need based on the information from your profile.
ETA: just read one of your other threads and since you are an international student, you would not have completed the profile. The criteria will be different for you. Good luck to you!
@paveyourpath Yes i did that on the collegeboard website for Bucknell and according to it, they met like almost 100% of my need.
Are you an international student from Pakistan? If you are an international student, this would be where to look:
http://www.bucknell.edu/admissions/international-admissions/paying-for-bucknell.html
If they want to know, why don’t they get the acceptances out and see if the kid is interested?
I sure appreciate schools whose regular admissions notification dates are before the mid-March to April dates. Heck, D heard from 2 Canadian universities and they are notoriously known to be later in notification. She heard from UO a week after applying back in September, that was the best. Sorry to vent, a bit tired (and edgy) of waiting on these last schools to get to the decision!
@paveyourpath yes i am. A guy from Pakistan got 45K per year.
Yes, it is possible. Bucknell says that their FA for international students is limited so it is not non-existent but it is limited. What their limits are, only they know. Since they have your financial information, they will calculate what they believe you can pay and provide a financial aid package with their decision.
Here is the thread in which other Bucknell applicants mention receiving the “are you still interested” email.
