University Honors Application Process

I have some questions regarding the Honors Application process (incoming freshman):

Can you apply for UHP at the same time you apply for general admission or do you need to be admitted first?

When will the online application be available for Fall 2011?

What is the essay question for UHP and what is the maximum length? Note: I would like to have the essay prepared in advance, so I can submit everything at once.

Thank you.

1) You apply to honors AFTER you’ve been admitted. That’s when the honors link will be activated.

2) Not sure…probably around end of July/beginning of Aug

3) The essay is NOTHING…just a simple intro about yourself. No big deal. Just a few sentences telling about yourself. UHP admits by stats, not by essay, so the essay is just an informal intro.

Write a short essay about yourself, your career goals, and how you expect the UHP to enrich your experience at the University of Alabama.

Does anyone remember when the online application was openned for Fall 2010? Just trying to get a handle on when it may open for Fall 2011.

Thank you.

There was someone on this board whose child applied at the end of July. However, that doesn’t mean that it will be the same this year.

Bama waits until it’s sure of exactly its scholarship offers before it puts up its app. If there’s going to be any changes, they will wait until final decisions are made. They don’t want people applying thinking one thing, and then a change happens.

Riggo: last years app was up on July 1st. D submitted hers on July 3rd. Of course, that could change from year to year. The Common App usually goes live on July 1st (which UA doesn’t participate in) but many of the schools that have their own app don’t go live until August 1st. I believe there was a notation on the undergraduate admissions page about when the 2010 application would be available; just checked & didn’t see anything for 2011 yet.
