I'm asking this here because the average stats for admitted UHC students leaves me curious. My school does not rank, but most students (like 75%) have a 4.0 GPA, as per the Pitt application. My SAT is a 1470 (2250) and I'm taking a very rigorous schedule, but my GPA is "only" 3.8 UW. Am I going to qualify for the honors college?

I think you’ll get into the honors college. I had similar stats (1480 SAT M+CR, 2250 w/ writing, and a 93.10/100 gpa) and also got a full tuition scholarship.

My advice is to submit the optional supplements they ask for: recs, essays, etc. and apply early.

Yeah, I’m applying in August when I attend one of their events. Pitt is technically my safety school, but I love it more than some of my reaches and definitely as much as my matches. But if I don’t get into UHC… it won’t be nearly as appealing. I plan on submitting my common app essay and perhaps another, as well as a teacher rec. Thanks for the reassurance.

contrary to popular belief, honors college at pitt is a state of mind, not an object of membership. If you want to be part of the honors college you can be regardless of your GPA. Your GPA only plays into whether or not you live in honors housing and whether or not you receive honors college scholarships.

you’re most likely in UHC. probable scholarship too.

You know, jmorley put it very very nicely. The Honors College is not just some special thing that you just get into. It’s only valuable if you want to use it. It’s all up to you.

I understand it as jmorely put it… except what I want is honors housing and the scholarships But thanks for the reminder that it’s not some elusive club.

We like Pitt in the variety of courses outside of your major that you can choose from to fulfill your degree requirements. Things like the film courses and comic courses, “fun” courses that I’m sure will be a lot of work, but will be a break from the rigorous science and math courses associated with an engineering major.

However, if one is in the Honors college, will you be limited in the courses you can take as degree requirements? IE, your humanities courses will have to be honors courses, and therefore, you can only take from a limited list of courses.

If you’re oos and need housing, are you only guaranteed housing if you’re in the honors college?

Can you live on campus all four years?

You are guaranteed housing for three years as long as you pay your deposit by the deadline. This applies whether you are OOS or in-state student. By senior year, you will have to live off campus. [Selection Process](http://www.pc.pitt.edu/housing/process.html#guarantees)

No, you are not limited to only honors courses for degree requirements. I don’t believe they offer honor courses in all subjects and the list of courses available are posted on the UHC website.

I believe that the dozen or so Chancellors Scholars plus the athletes are permitted to live on campus all four years. Many students freely choose to move to an apartment before that.
