University Honors Program - Statistics

Hi everyone.

So I finally received my package from GW yesterday and among the many papers, there was a letter saying they were unable to offer me admission into the University Honors Program. Even though I worked hard on the extra essays for the program, I am definitely not upset or bitter about not getting in. It was worth a shot and I gave it my best. I will definitely attend GW next year as Elliott is enough of a reason for me <3.

I'm curious as to what the statistics of the people who made it in are. So if you feel comfortable, could you please post SAT scores or anything similar, just like we do in class of 2014 threads? Btw, how many students were accepted? My letter didn't give a number. Congratulations to everyone who made it - I know you guys deserve it :)

To everyone who will be a Colonial, see you next year!!!

In terms of acceptance rates, the letter I got said that they had about 2000 people apply for 125 spots, but I figure they accepted more than 125, maybe 200 or 300. So I’d say the acceptance rate for honors is ~10-15%

I was accepted with these stats:
2260 SAT I
800 Math 2, 800 Physics, 750 US History SAT II
36 ACT
Pretty diverse EC’s

Also, I was applying to ESIA, so maybe that influence whether or not I got in. The UHP is made up of different percentages from each college within GWU, and ESIA is one of the highest, so it might be easier to get in if you’re applying to ESIA.

I was accepted with:
2280 SAT I
760 Math 2, 680 Spanish
34 ACT
A lot of EC’s
Elliott School

I was accepted to UHP at the ESIA with:

GPA: 4.2 (29/514 in my class, although that was only after my midyear report showed a jump from a 4.04 GPA and 49/5xx in my class)
SAT I: 2190
SAT II: 690 US History, 680 Biology E, 730 Literature
ACT: 32
Lots of different EC’s

I think what tipped me over the edge were kick-butt essays, honestly. My scores and GPA seem to only be only slightly on the high end in the middle 25%-75% of admissions stats, but I worked for weeks on those essays!

You are all very exceptional students - impressive SATs, especially - and all ESIA

Since GW tries to have all schools represented in UHP, I think it may be tougher to get in if one is from ESIA. I’m happy to see my school being the most competitive.

@octopod: Wow, 200-300 is definitely quite competitive.
@GeminiRising: Great job on those essays! Hard work paid off. Congrats!
