University Honors

What is university honors?

I just got accepted to Virginia Tech as a transfer student and today I received a letter in the mail from them. It says that due to my academic record, they encourage me to apply to university honors.

1) do they send this letter to everyone with a 3.5? am i speecial? ;D

2) is the application process very competitive?

3) is it worth it?

Entering freshmen are invited to apply to University Honors if:

* their high school GPA is at least a 3.50 and the SAT I score is a 1400 (minimums: 620 Critical Reading, 600 Math) or above; or if
* their high school GPA is at least a 3.70 with an SAT I score of 1300-1399 (minimums: 620 Critical Reading, 600 Math).

Students who do not enter University Honors as incoming freshmen will be given the opportunity to join Honors after completion of their first semester. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 in order to apply.

So everyone with a 3.5 is invited to apply. but don't worry. you're still special. :)
