OP, you mentioned Truman State several posts ago. It probably has a bit more of are reputation outside of its region than the other schools you are discussing (for fellow CCers, it makes it into the Fiske Guide, at least). It has pretty solid academics (which I believe, I know a professor who teaches there whom I consider to be quite briliant). About 1/4 of the students are from outside Missouri. Regarding weather, it has winter, but nothing like what you would experience in Bemidji or Mankato State or U Wisconsin schools (Truman’s would be not as cold and shorter).
I have been to the Mankato college (now called Minnesota State Mankato, they changed the name a few years ago). My kid went to an all day competition there run by a linguistics professor. It was a nicer and larger campus than I expected. Really rural, though. I’d probably pick Truman over it got better weather and stronger academics. I’d pick Truman over Bemidji, too – the Bemidji students will almost all be from that region of Minnesota. The Bemidji area does have a lot of natural beauty, but Truman will be better academically.
