Hi! It’s getting very close to the Jan 29th early action decision deadline and I still haven’t heard back with my admissions decision. While I know it’s a long shot with my stats I was hoping some of you could chance me for the nursing direct admit program? Or if you could tell me whether you got in or not with your stats?
ACT: 28
GPA: 3.55
3 AP classes: AP History, AP Psychology, and AP Biology
President of two clubs/ organizations at my high school as well as at other extra curricular activities varrying from music to health clubs to sports. I work a part time job and attend the top public high school in my state.
My daughter and a friend both got in with similar ACT scores to you (high 20’s) but both also had unweighted GPAs over 3.9 and weighted GPAs over 4.0. I think you will get into CLA without issue and getting into the freshman nursing guarantee program will come down to total number of applicants and how many have formally accepted a spot by the deadline. I wish you the best of luck in the coming days!
My daughter got in with a 29 and 4.0 uw. I am curious as to how many that got in were CNAs or had volunteered in the medical field and if it made a difference. She did both and I had heard that they wanted some experience in healthcare.
I agree that it certainly seems to be an important consideration in admission. My daughter also completed her CNA last summer and had volunteered at a local nursing home as well. The CNA shows that an applicant can at least successfully deal with some of the more unpleasant aspects of healthcare and I think that it really gives an applicant a leg up on the field if nothing else.
FYI I was accepted into the university but not into the nursing program.
My daughter had about the same stats and didn’t get into the Nursing Guarantee program either. I told her that maybe what was meant to be happened. If the accepted students have higher test scores and GPA’s (and may be a bit more driven), she might not enjoy the experience in this program. I know it’s disappointing, but life will go on
@ilovecats2017 where does your daughter think she will go for nursing now?
I think she is leaning toward University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The campus is beautiful, it isn’t too far away so that she can get home to visit friends who are attending the U and St. Thomas, and the Nursing program there has a good reputation. It’s a bummer, because both her dad and I are U alumni, but That’s life. After a couple of years working, where you went to college won’t really matter!
