University Music School Question

Hi,
I'm goin to be a senior next year in high school, and i've already made up my mind that i want to audition for music conservatories. I study privately with Theodore Oien, Principal Clarinet of Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and I have a huge passion for music. The conservatories I'm auditioning for are:

Eastman School of Music
Manhattan School of Music
Mannes Music College
North Carolina School of Arts

But my question is if I were to audition for a the music program at a university, and the music falculty loved the audition and accepted me, but I didnt quite meet the requirements of the university, could I still get accepted in the music program?? I asked this mainly because throughout my high school years I didnt try my hardest, my GPA isn't bad, but my ACT score is really low. Is it possible for the music falculty to still accpet me? this is really important, and this is the main reason why I've been holding back on university auditions.

Welcome- that issue is addressed pretty well here, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=356603 and you can search this forum for other discussions of this topic.

The basic answer to your question is that for a performance major at high level schools, the audition will be weighted far more heavily than grades. For some non performance music related majors, grades/stats will play a greater role.

Based on my daughter's experience this year, I think if your stats are above the 20th percentile for the school and you have a really good audition, you have a good shot at being accepted by the university. The music school will have to fight for you and if your scores and GPA are around the 20th percentile or higher, they should prevail. (This based on a sample size of 2)
