Hello! I'm applying as a freshman to the university this year! I'm expecting to hear back from the university within the next few weeks and I'm not sure where exactly the application status will be shown. I've gone onto myBama and clicked "Check Admissions Application Status" and it takes me to my application that still says "Processed" but where will it say "Accepted"? Will it be next to where is says it received my transcript, etc? Furthermore, the instructions they sent say to click "Check Admissions Application Status" and then say "proceed from there" so I'm a bit lost. Do they send a letter or email as well? This seems like a simple question, but as an anxious applicant I would like to know!

Also, should I wait to fill out the scholarships application until I am accepted? Is the Honors College application available to you after you are accepted?

Lastly, I've read that you are informed of the scholarship you will receive before March. Is it okay to accept Bama before then? Are they able to take back your scholarship or lower it if you accept before then? Or is the notification of your scholarship you get in, say, December of the same gravity as the letter you receive in March?

As an out-of-state student, not many people from my school attend this university and my counselors aren't able to answer all of my questions, especially since it does not use the Common App. Any help is appreciated, thank you so much!

If you go to your MyBama portal, are you seeing any extra tabs? If so, you’ve been accepted. Also, if you see a link that is requesting an enrollment deposit, you’ve been accepted. If you go to the Academics tab, scroll down, left column and see a link to apply to the Honors College, you’ve been accepted. Usually within a few days of these links showing up on MyBama, you will receive 3 snail-mail envelopes…Admissions letter, certificate, and scholarship letter.

Don’t wait to submit your scholarship app. Do it now. You will apply to the HC after acceptance.

The issue about scholarships and March is confusing. If you qualify for any assured awards, you will hear about those right after acceptance. Other awards might come sometime after the New Year. You formally accept scholarship offers, usually in the spring.

Hello! I’m not sure if this is the best place to ask this question but we were wondering if our daughter has any chance of receiving any scholarships at U of Alabama. She has already been accepted, however being from OOS, we of course are trying to receive any help financially that we can. She has a 3.89 GPA, and 27 ACT, many extracurriculars and leadership positions. She plans on majoring in Business. Thanks for any help!
Merit is typically largely driven by test scores because those numbers are what helps a school’s ranking. Things like ECs, leadership positions are nice and can help a student look more well-rounded, but they don’t help a school’s profile…which is typically the goal with merit awards.
