I am an intended Pre-med major attempting to decide between the University Fellows Experience at University of Alabama and the Honors Program at Florida State.
Florida State seems to give more opportunities for research and overall engagement in the healthcare system, but UFE at Alabama could give better networking opportunities.
Any advice as to which school’s offer is better suited to prepare a pre-med student for the MCAT and acceptance to medical school?
Both are excellent and will offer unique experiences. Have you visited, done an overnight? Did you have a preference? If cost is similar, there’s no wrong choice. Congratulations for two impressive acceptances!
Wow…you got into UFE? if so, don’t take that lightly. That is a very elite group that is given high visibility at Bama…they also have a generous budget for activities and travel. There is no way I’d choose FSU over Bama anyway, but adding UFE in should seal the deal.

Schools do NOT “prepare” students for the MCAT…none do that. That is up to YOU. As for getting accepted to med schools, that too, is up to you. Schools do not place students into med schools. You need to have the GPA (both cum and BCMP) and a strong MCAT score…and appropriate medically related ECs.
I don’t see why you’d think you’d have better research opps at FSU.
Does FSU write Committee Letters?
