I'm currently a high school student in Massachusetts, but I'm very interested in moving to Alabama for college. My GPA is around a 3.7, I haven't taken SATs yet but my PSAT was a 202 so I'm not worried about those. I'm very much aware of the "rivalry" between Bama and Auburn, but I want an opinion based on the major I want: psychology.
So far I've gathered some info about how Auburn has better academics, but that Bama has been ranked higher by World News, etc.
I also know that for Bama I'm basically qualified for full out-of-state tuition for all four years because of my grades and probable SAT score. I haven't found anything like that for Auburn (feel free to tell me about that, too!)
Basically I want an overall opinion on the two schools with a focus on psychology and scholarships... thanks! (:

UMASS blows both of these schools away academically, why would you want to go to either one? Save your money and go to UMASS. There is no point in moving to the Deep South when you have so many schools in New England to choose from, unless we’re talking Vanderbilt.

For one thing, I don’t like New England. I’ve wanted to get away from here for as long as I can remember. Another thing is that the majority of my highschool goes to either UMASS Amherst or UMASS Dartmouth. I wouldn’t want to go to either of those. UMASS Boston doesn’t provide on-campus housing and my parents work less than 5 minutes away from campus. I don’t want to be that close to them when I’m trying to become independent in college. The average GPA for both Alabama and Auburn are higher than UMASS, so saying that they blow them away academically isn’t necessarily true. Bama and Auburn have also been ranked higher in World News as far as public universities.

Auburn does not have better academics. The academics at both schools are similar. Bama is ranked higher than Auburn as well.

Bama is located in a mid-sized city, so there’s more to do off campus.

Bama has about 40% of OOS students, so it is NOT a “deep south” school at all.

Yes, you probably will get a good scholarship at Bama if you get a strong SAT. If you get a 1400 Math + CR (or ACT 32), you’ll get free tuition. There are other scholarships as well.

Take both the SAT and ACT for the best chance.

UMASS blows both of these schools away academically,

Absolutely not true. Sistokid, you need to know the facts before posting nonsense. When schools are similarly ranked, there’s no way that one school “blows” another out of the water academically.

UAlabama ranked #79 (tied with American Univ, Baylor, and Michigan State)

UMass-Dartmouth ranked #81

Auburn ranked #85

UMass-Amherst ranked #99
