I am a rising senior who would be an out-of-state student applying to UA. I understand that the out-of-state merit scholarships are automatically awarded based on standardized test scores and GPA. But I have some questions about the competitive alumni scholarships.

Are these Competitive Alumni Scholarships available for all entering freshman, or are they only available to children of alumni? If the competitive alumni scholarships are available to all entering freshman, are they awarded in addition to the automatic merit scholarships, or do they replace the merit scholarships? Also, are there essays, recommendation letters, and other related material that are required when applying for these scholarships?
