University of Alabama vs University of Florida

Having a hard time deciding. Full tuition ride at Alabama. Bright Futures for Florida. Live between them both in N. Florida. Majoring in engineering. Thoughts on either school?

How bout your in state university ? Full ride at Alabama is hard to pass up…University of Florida has more prestige…Got any money from Florida ? This is a dilemma…I would go with Alabama since they gave you full ride…

Florida is a better school for engineering. If the costs are similar I would say go with Florida.

Are you in the Honors college at either school? I would definitely favor an honors college situation.

Do you know what type of engineering might interest you? If you are unsure there, that would also favor Florida as they have more engineering majors available. If you have a particular engineering major in mind, that might also tip the scales if only one school offers it (e.g. Industrial and Systems Engineering, offered at Florida but not at Bama).

UF is definitely the better school for engineering. But that’s a biased opinion, I’m going to UF.

If the money is really important, go to Alabama. However, going to UF won’t cost much more with bright futures. It’ll probably make a small difference when you apply for jobs or graduate school.

Have you visited each campus? Which do you like more?

Will you be getting a graduate degree? If so, go to Alabama with a full ride, then get your graduate degree at a more prestigious school.

we were in a similar boat this year, deciding btwn the two schools. we chose bama over UF. bama just “gets” it.

UF engineering is very strong across the board including graduate programs. Unless you have some other reason for preferring Alabama which you haven’t mentioned, you should go to Florida.

Exactly why is Florida a better school for engineering?

Tough decision.

Bama’s new facilities and their plans to grow the school are a plus to our family. Are you getting the full tuition + the $2,500/yr for engineering? Do you have AP credits? Bama is generous. You may want to look into the AP/DE credits to see if you could dual major or major and minor.

UF with Bright Futures is a very nice deal.

Have you sat in on any classes at either school?

Have you compared the class size at each school?

You are in a great position. Don’t second guess yourself. Go with your gut.

Yes to full tuition plus 2500 py from engineering. Been to both schools for visit. Bama is much nicer in lots of ways and faculty. UF is just the Ivy League of the south and I have always wanted to go there but Bama has showed me more all the way around. Bright Futures doesn’t provide much even at top award level. Plus I am in the 1st selection group for Bama housing on April 2. Thanks for all the input.
