University of Alabama vs. University of South Carolina?

DS was accepted to both Alabama and South Carolina – and is planning on enrolling in the Athletic Training/ Exercise Science program (which is why he applied to SEC schools – he wanted a place with lots of Division 1 Sports). We are from New York, and know that both schools will be a bit of a culture shock. Any thoughts on which school will provide a better diverse experience? Which will offer better academic and “out of classroom” opportunities? A happier campus? Thanks!

Alabama won’t be much, if any, of a culture shock.

Alabama is over half OOS, so the diversity would be there. A good number of New Yorkers are at Bama.

Alabama has the prettier campus and Tuscaloosa has a lot going on…many new things…growing…it is a good-sized city with a population of 100,000. The Tuscaloosa Metro Area has a population of about 250,000

Tide Sports can’t be beat.

Are you going to visit?

Someone else from NY just asked this question…

I would visit both schools.

Unfortunately I’m biased against Columbia, SC (not the school, but the geographic area) due to driving through there many times and never having a good experience. I love the Greenville area of SC though.

We were just in Tuscaloosa and loved it. If your son is into sports he will probably greatly enjoy the UA campus atmosphere.

Again, worth a visit to both schools imho.
