<p>My daughter has been accepted to U of A and she really liked the University, however, just would like to get more feed back before she makes her final decision.</p>

<p>My s has had so many friends major in MT at almost every school you can imagine in the country. He has seen productions at U of A and was impressed with the productions and the faculty. This program is not as well known as some of the other programs, but remember that there are a lot of students that can't or don't want to pay the tuition that some of the better known schools charge. I have been so impressed with the support that the Arizona schools get from the community and the state. There is a lot of scholarship money for out of state students for both academics and talent. The Tucson and Phoenix communities are so supportive of their respective universities (U of A and ASU) that I don't think you will see very often. I hear of so many stressed out students thinking that they have to get in to a certain school. The sunbelt has been quite overlooked on this forum but there are a lot of patrons of the arts in those communites that are so supportive of young talent. Go for it!</p>

<p>I hope your D has not decided to go to U of A for MT. My D ( MT, BFA ) was just cut from the BFA theatre program as were 16, yes 16 others ( 10 freshman and 7 sophmores). The letters were presented yesterday, May 5 and now auditioning for other schools for the 06-07 school year is over. We are stunned, confused and stranded. These cuts came without warning and have left 17 kids without a plan for next year.</p>
<p>This is a little tardy for this year, but CSU Fullerton does their transfer juries mid-May (for placement at the junior level in the BFA in Mus. Th. program). All one needs to qualify is two semesters of acting and two semesters of Voice & Movement for the actor (including IPA - International Phonetic Alphabet) with a B- or better, and one semester of script analysis with a C or better. The audition consists of acting, singing and dancing, is held on site, and is not flexible in attendance (usually a Saturday through Monday period mid May, with one jury area per day).</p>
<p>If a student has acquired 60 units, they are eligible for transfer admission to CSUF. Of course, this doesn't help the freshman who is cut, as they may not have acquired that many units (unless several AP courses were taken in high school, as well as intercession study during their first college winter break). But I always encourage students to try - call the school and ask (if target admission has not been met, they may make exceptions).</p>
<p>As far as transfer credit, the theatre courses will usually be accepted on a "lower division for lower division," and "upper for upper" basis (meaning that if Directing I is a 300 level course at CSUF, then a 200 level course at another institute may not directly transfer). But all the transfered theatre requirements accepted are evaluated on an individual basis, at the sole discretion of the theatre undergraduate advisor (meaning Admissions & Records will trust our judgment of transfer credits accepted to meet degree requirements in theatre, music and/or dance), so sometimes a 200 level Directing course is accepted for our 300 level one...depending on the curriculum covered and the degree of difficulty of all assignments, which can both be evidenced by a copy of the syllabus).</p>

<p>This is the requirement for the acting BA program, too (soon to be a BFA - crossing our fingers, as we're in the final approvals stage).</p>
<p>Both programs jury that last weekend before and Monday of finals week here (approx. the second weekend in May...).</p>
<p>To transfer into our BA General Theatre Studies (true liberal arts degree), Directing, Stage Management, and/or Design/Tech degrees, you needn't have any theatre courses (but all your gen ed better be in line, or you will add years onto study catching up with your peers). We recommend the basics: 2 semesters each of acting & voice and movement, and one semester of script analysis.</p>

<p>EVERY ONE OF US knows that, in may, they could be cut. if you do not take it upon yourself to prepare for that scenario...that is your fault. not the university's. </p>

<p>You know that every year there are surprises - people who nobody thought would be cut. You can't say that no cuts at U of A come without warning. It's not true at all, and I can't see why you would even say it on a public forum where the people who know the truth could so easily dispute such a statement.</p>
<p>in four years at UA....ONE cut has surprised me. ONE. and after discussing it with the faculty...even the person who was cut understood why. ONE SURPRISE. and while those who were cut might despute it and say, 'i was a surprise' i believe that others would agree that there are VERY FEW surprises.</p>
<p>I can think of at least four surprising cuts from only two of my years there right off the top of my head. Maybe you were in the inner circle or something, Goldy.</p>
<p>I can also think of plenty of the most talented students who willingly left the program, or seriously considered it. One exceptionally talented graduate I know of was convinced not to drop out by a professor - they promised him a huge role in his senior year, and that made him stay when he was ready to drop out - in his sophomore year. This is straight from the horse's mouth.</p>
<p>well, i do not know to whom you are referring...but in my four years...only two people left the program...one was extremely gifted and she left because she got a lot of bites at her junior showcase (an opportunity provided by UA). and if this sophomore was exceptionally talented...then telling him that he would have a huge role his senior year...pretty obvious:)</p>
<p>but i will reiterate...for those of us who discuss it regularly...there are PRECIOUS FEW surprises. ONE in four years.</p>
