My daughter audition at Unifieds in NYC... has anyone heard? She is hopeful!

On the MT major page there is a list of acceptances by college name & it lists 5 people under U of the Arts for BFA MT. I don’t know if your daughter applied to the same major though. Best of luck to her! I know how hard the waiting is for decisions…

Thank you. My daughter is hoping for a BFA from U of Arts… she will wait!

My son auditioned in Philadelphia the weekend prior to Unifieds. He and some other people heard very quickly (he was accepted into the Acting BFA program). It might have taken them longer to decide after all the regional auditions.

thank you stagemum… and congratulations to your son.

UArts has rolling admissions, with a slight “twist”, for both Acting and MT. As a general rule, students who are clearly accepted or rejected will hear within about 2 weeks from their audition date. Most students will hear one way or the other within this time frame but those who do not are still in the running and will usually hear once auditions are completed, which this year will be March 17. So if you haven’t heard back yet, hang in there, it doesn’t mean you have been rejected and you may still be accepted.

Thank you MichaelNKat for your feedback…it helps,

If anyone has any questions about the UArts program, I’m a freshman acting major who’s here to help!

theatreguy - my son has been accepted into UArts for the acting B.F.A. program, and has registered for the accepted students’ open house. I think he’d be interested in hearing about flexibility in the program, and whether there are opportunities to take playwriting or other theater arts courses, along with dramatic training.

Junior and senior years, there is room in the curriculum to take electives in the School of Theatre. Take a look at the curriculum posted on UArts website and at the course catalog to get a more in depth view of the opportunities outside of the structured mandated curriculum.

There is definitely room in our schedules to take other theatre/playwriting courses IF you are smart in your scheduling. Actually it isn’t uncommon (I know a few students doing it) to pursue a playwriting minor! As for other theatre arts courses in general, it often depends. If you are proactive and know what courses you want to take, you can normally find a way to fit them in. But some people when registering for classes don’t exactly know what they want to take, or what courses they HAVE to sign up for…that’s just them being slightly unprepared. You of course always get into the courses you are required to take that year, but that is when getting into the extra courses are more difficult.

Also, a lot of people use their Liberal Arts requirement to add in extra theatre courses. For example, you can take American Playwrights, Modern Drama, Shakespeare, etc, to fulfill that requirement. In terms of performance classes, those are slightly different though. Most of the time you shouldn’t have trouble getting in them. The only time there may be an issue is if there is some sort of prerequisite that you need to fulfill (which the teacher of the course may waive if they feel you can handle the material).

Just to be brief, because I could go on for pages, the training itself is very good (if I’m interpreting "dramatic training correctly, as to be the core curriculum)! I’m definitely satisfied with what I’ve learned after a semester and a half here. I will say this…it is what you make of it, just like any other school. I know one or two students who aren’t putting in as much effort as they could, and are just scraping by. But the majority of the students work hard, and learn a lot. There are lots of other posts, some by myself and some by MichaelNKat that specify more in depth what goes into the UArts BFA…but if you have any specific questions, I’d love to answer them!

I hope you guys enjoy the open house! I actually may or may not be helping with it…

Still waiting on a decison. For those accepted, how did you receive the news? Thank you!

I auditioned for UArts in November and then applied to the school after auditioning. I just received my admissions packet (came in a big UArts envelope) to the university a couple weeks ago which included my BFA Acting acceptance in it.

Congratulations ssjjkk!!

Students are notified by snail-mail. My son received his envelope at boarding school. Most of his other notifications have been e-mailed or sent to our home address, but UArts does not participate in the Common Application, and so they followed separate instructions.
