So today I happened to come across this college and its:
private
cheap
easy to get into
offers my majors
and located in a pretty city by the water.

It seemed kind of perfect. But after a little research (wikipedia) I found out that it stuggled financially and had trouble with accreditation, although recently accredited, and also had some "security issues". Is this true?

If you know anything about this college, please let me know. Thank you(:

I think that if you said to almost any Connecticut resident that Bridgeport is a “pretty city by the water” that we’d all wonder what planet you dropped in from.

I live in CT. Bridgeport is, unfortunately, not much of a “pretty city by the water.” To be honest, it’s more like an “economically depressed, kind of dirty city with a high crime rate. Which happens to have water.”

Unfortunately, ever since the shipping and hatmaking businesses shut down earlier in the century (I’m not kidding here - Danbury, a nearby city, and Bridgeport made and shipped a lot of hats; the Danbury teams to this day are called the Hatters), the city has been EXTREMELY depressed. It has high levels of poverty and crime. Before I was born, my parents briefly lived there while house-hunting nearby towns. In a few months, their apartment was broken into and robbed, and on many occasions they heard gunshots outside the window and at night. While the city has probably improved since then, I would NOT recommend going to the University pf Bridgeport if you’re not going to be a commuter (most students are). “Security issues” is probably a euphemism for “lots and lots of theft from the dorms, and probably some assault as well.”

Bridgeport itself is not a terrible school, but I would never want to be in that environment. I can think of many other colleges that are probably just as cheap and easy to get into, but that are located in a better area to live and go to school.

I applied there as an extreme safety - I never visited either. I had pretty low stats and was accepted with a $14,000 scholarship. I never truly considered it and don’t even know why I applied there. It has a low rep and was voted the Worst College in America a few years back. It nearly lost its accredition too, I believe.
Oh and I agree with the previous posts - Bridgeport is NOT pretty. It is ghetto and dirty. My dad owned a few houses there and the people were NOT friendly at all!

Stay away from University of Bridgeport!! It’s located by the ocean near Seaside Park (full of dope dealers and pimps in the 70’s) in a very dangerous park of Bridgeport. Your personal safety will always be a concern and the school is run by “moonies” as stated earlier by bigredbear.

Yesterday for the heck of it I was looking up low ranked colleges in the US… bridgeport was one of them. If you go to wikipedia you’ll see they have some major problems… like up until recently they didnt have full accreditation, crime is fairly high, considered by some to be a cult, they got rid of the entire liberal arts college while screwing a lot of faculty and students over, etc… just read the wiki… it looks pretty bad.

I currently attend UB. I’m so happy I chose this school. Its really diverse, its in a great location (for all those people who say bad things about Bridgeport…its changed A LOT. We have a great downtown, parks, and scenery). I had my choice between this school and about 8 others all over the country and one out of country. UB appealed to me most because the faculty seemed to actually care about the students, the classes were small, extracurricular life is great, and of course the diversity. I wanted to go to school where I could make friends from around the world. UB is definately that school. They have great academic programs as well. UB produced the youngest ambassador to the UN ever. You know Subway? The inventor of that went here as well. Think Mustangs are cool? The guy who designs the interiors went here. UB is a great school and we have a lot of amazing people that teach here and that have gone here. I bet the people who posted the negative things never even went to school here!

As with any large city there are depressed areas of Bridgeport. But to describe the entire city in that way is wrong. Twenty years ago, Seaside Park fell into some disrepair, but it is a beautiful area now. I challenge anyone to take one trip down to the park to see for themselves. As for the city, visit [Home | Surprise, It’s Bridgeport!](http://surpriseitsbridgeport.com/home/) to see how many of the city’s areas have turned around! Downtown has some wonderful new restaurants!
