i noticed there was a thread for the current freshman at ubc and i thought why not make one for the class of 2015!
I am a Canadian who is currently living in the US, however, my mom lives in Vancouver. The problem is UBC thinks im an international student when i should be getting instate tuition because my mom is a current resident AND im a canadian citizen. Has anybody else been through this and if so what did you do?

Besides that if anybody has any questions about the campus feel free to ask, i lived on it for 2 years so i know it pretty well.
Also if you have any information on the ski/snowboard scene, the housing, the social scene, the academics and so on please give all the info you can!
class of 2015 woo!

I’m also a Canadian living in England and when I applied there was an option to check ‘Canadian Citizen’ quite early on in the application.

I applied around October and sent in my predicted grades (for the IB) late November or early December and have been offered admission for the Arts department

I applied on September 21st and I have yet to hear of an acceptance/rejection. I’m a Canadian citizen living in the U.S. and I’m just dying to move back to Canada. I applied into the Faculty of Applied Science at both the Vancouver and Kelowna campuses. UBCO is my first choice actually. My GPA is a 4.05 (weighted) or 3.85 (non-weighted) and I got a 1960 on my SAT I, 700 on my Biology E SAT II, 720 on my Math II SAT II, and a 690 on my Literature SAT II. I also have leadership, community service, sports, and awards listed on my supplemental applications.

If you’re a Canadian citizen it doesn’t matter where you live. As long as you have a current Canadian citizenship you’ll pay Canadian tuition (I went on a tour in August and asked).

My transcript was just sent yesterday. Bummer. I’m all the way in San Diego, so I probably won’t hear if I got in until late late late February/early March :(

Oh wow that’s really good! Haha yea you’ll definitely get it I wish I knew, but since I’m from the States we have letter grades here. My GPA is a 4.05, but I have no idea what percentage that would translate to, and I don’t even know the cut-off for Applied Science :(

Ah. Yeah, I’m from BC and all they really care about for us is our average. I think mid-high 80s is competitive for Applied Science, but I’m not sure what 4.05 would translate to. And you guys need SATs and ECs don’t you?

I wish I went to high school in BC. My grandma lives in Kelowna actually. A 4.05 is pretty good here in the States, but like I said, I don’t know what percentage that is. I had to fill out 2 supplementals, one for International Students (even though I’m actually Canadian) and one for Applied Science. They both asked for ECs. I have some, just not an overwhelming amount, so yea. American schools LOVE LOVE LOVE ECs. It kinda sucks actually. And we had to take the SAT. I got a 1960. I also took SAT Subject Tests, which I don’t think UBC needed, but I sent them anyway. I got a 690 in Literature, 720 in Math II, and 700 in Biology E. I also took the ACT and bombed it (got a 24) which sucks, because the score was sent to UBC. Hopefully they will just ignore it and look at my other high marks…

Dear Everybody
I am a Canadian Citizen living in China. Can somebody give me an idea of my chances to UBC?
GPA: 3.8 Unweighted
EC: Average amount
Leadership: Student Council, Yearbook,
SAT 1880. M670 R540 W670

Applying to Saunders first choice and Faculty of Science Second.

^ College in the American or Canadian sense? Sauder is very competitive, so you’ll need ECs and a solid supp app as well, even if you’re a transfer.
