Does anyone have any information about student life at UB? How are the dorms? Are the students involved in clubs and activities? How about their academics? How are they in the sciences, especially Chemistry and Biology. I am really interested in UB but I am worried about the large student body. If anyone has any info at all that woulod be really nice. Thank You!!

SUNY Buffalo is one of the best publics in upstate/western NY. It attracts some of the very best high school students in western NY by offering a great education at an incredibly low price (thanks to the generous taxpayers). It attracts many students who could easily gain admission to top private universities and colleges. It is large and public so it has the characteristics that go along with that. Not much individual attention and nurturance, broader range of student ability and maturity. But, the opportunities are there for involvement in clubs and activities. I hear student life is excellent. I know a theater major who had a terrific experience in the classroom and with theatrical groups. I know a chem major who is very happy at UB. He could have gotten into one of the Ivys, I am sure, (a real genius-type in math and science) but his family made the financial decision for UB. His older brother was also a math/science whiz, went to SUNY Albany, and is now in the math PhD program at Cal Tech. So, SUNY worked for his older brother, and maybe SUNY will work for you too.

The only other thing I would add is that the NY statutory colleges at Cornell are an incredible deal for NY residents. The best of both worlds.
