University of Calgary? Or any other ?

First, they are asking me for my SAT I scores. Why? Because I studied in an American system school, so SAT scores are indeed needed in Canada.
I did the stupid/or great mistake of taking a prep university program, said to be as challenging as university, and sent those to University of Calgary.
Okey, can I get accepted in Engineering Oil/Gas?

(Anything beyond 25k dollars per year is too expensive for me. But I would love to have
a look at it if you guys have any university in mind.)
(I am an International Student, from Portugal.)

Following the grades.

Highschool

Final total average is 81.9%

Being that my average in math, sadly due to my teacher, is a 79%

Physics 87%

Chemistry 84%

Biology 78 % <_<

Fun and games no problem until here. I believe I would have been accepted had I submitted those alone. Please do keep note, the grades above are not IBs or A levels or anything fancy.

Now, following the grades of the post secondary institution that I attended for a year.

Composition 87%

Literature 93%

Advanced Computer Concept 88%

Also, Journalism from the University of Northwestern. 90% average.

Calculus 2 had an average of 80% in those until the last exam screwed me over. Was not prepared for it. Got a 55/100 in the exam. Final average 75 %

Physics 2 same story, last exam 40/100. Final average 74%

Total Final average 81.53%

Now, please do take note those are college level courses. Not that it makes any difference.

SAT I
Took it once, for the heck of taking it.
Was horrible. <_<

Reading-470
Writing-440
Math-430

IELTS- 7. Could have gotten an 8 but was careless in the reading section.

My volunteer/working experience is heavy,so is my creativity in writing essays. However, nothing besides grades was asked from me.

What is annoying me is the SAT. Why the heck are they asking for it ? Should I send them that crappy one ? Notice that I have until August to send them the SAT scores.
I am currently planning on retaking the SAT. Getting something around 600-800 points in each section. However, I don't know if I should be devoting so much time in studying for the SAT I if they are simply going to "look" at it not really giving it any credit
So, thoughts?
Can I get in? Which other universities could I get in with those grades?
If I am going to take the SAT I, it would have to be in May. So, with the waiting time of 2-3 weeks, mid may I should have around 2000 SAT I score ready to send.
Notice that I am planning on entering university in September.
Also, lets try to solve the University of Calgary and to where I can apply and probably enter with my tangible grades. Leave the SAT part for last.
Thanks guys!

Anybody ???

I doubt U of Calgary will only be 25k a year. Tuition alone should be around 18-19k, if you add residence and food the total cost goes up to about 30+k.

Check this out for info on tuition
http://www.aucc.ca/canadian-universities/facts-and-stats/tuition-fees-by-university/

Take a look at the ACT test, it’s equivalent to the SAT, but you might find it easier. There’s a practice test somewhere on their website.

[A Student Site for ACT Test Takers | ACT Student](<a href=“The ACT Test for Students | ACT”>http://www.actstudent.org/)

Uhm, I see, that is rather interesting, I was quite sure it was about 15k tuition.
I know of the ACT. However, I prefer the SAT. Interesting enough, I talked with admissions from Calgary about such matter and they told me that they prefer the SAT <_<

Tuition is only ~10k a year for international students… tack on 10k for living expenses, and it will only cost about 20k.

http://www.ucalgary.ca/pubs/calendar/current/assets/FEES_CHART.pdf

In 2011 you only needed 80% to get in to engineering; however, the average has been increasing, and your SAT is pretty low as well:

[Competitive Admission Criteria | Undergraduate Admission Guide | University of Calgary](http://www.ucalgary.ca/admissions/competitive_admission_avg)

I am not sure about your chances for admission. Maybe try applying to SFU/UVic and those kinds of places.

Definitely retake the SAT. Since you are an international student they WILL look at it - they wouldn’t ask for it otherwise. Besides, your grades are borderline and the SAT could be the determining factor.

I am currently at the University of Calgary (Biology) so if you have any questions about the university then feel free to ask.

Awesome that you study there.
I will send you a private msg right now.

It’s 10k for 5 courses, in other words, PER SEMESTER. Therefore tuition alone is 20k per year.

OH you’re right. Sorry I missed that.

Made the same mistake in the past. Sounded too good to be true.
