How hard is it to get into there for Petroleum Engineering? I am a Canadian citizen but currently go to high school in the U.S. What are some other good canadian schools for this major?

Hi! I am going to the University of Calgary this Fall! :] I am currently in Biological Sciences though.

It is not very difficult to get into the University of Calgary, even the Engineering faculty. However, since you are going to high school in the States, you will have to take the SAT/ACT and the following SAT II tests:
- Math II
- Chemistry
- Physics

[US High School | Undergraduate Admission Guide | University of Calgary](http://www.ucalgary.ca/admissions/ceebs)

I assume that AP tests would suffice instead of the SAT IIs, but you should contact the admissions office to find out for sure.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your current unweighted GPA? That might help to see where you stand for admissions.

The only other Canadian university that would be comparable for Petroleum Engineering would be the University of Alberta.

There is no Petroleum Engineering in the University of Calgary - they call it Oil and Gas Engineering. Same thing to be honest. Or if you want a more broad education, you can take either chemical or mechanical engineering, and either of those have a petroleum engineering minor.

You can’t go wrong with UCalgary by the way, especially in the Chem/Petroleum Eng Department. By far, the best funded department in the UCalgary engineering faculty. By far the department that racks in the most corporate sponsorships. By far the most connected academic department in Canada to the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

There are some courses in the east such as Geotechnical Eng from Waterloo, and I believe Memorial has some related courses? UofA’s PetE program is good too to be sure.

Are SAT 2’s and ACT/SAT required for the university of alberta petroleum engineering?

Answers to all your questions are on the website:

@Professional123: Yes.

Hey everyone,
I’ve just filled the online app forms and pay the app fee. UofC asked me to send my transcripts and I did.
I am wondering IS THAT IT!!! No reccomandations, essays, list of extra… activies???
If there is such thing, where should send it to???

I am an international student.

Any one???

I asked the admission office myself!
For some programs (like Computer Science) transcript + TOEFL (or other english proficiency tests) + online application are all they want…

There are only a few schools in Canada that are actually holistic (UBC, Queen’s)…

catria, what do you mean by holistic? And can you kindly list those schools. Thank you in advance.

Anyone knows when U of C releases undergrad admission decisions???
for internationals?

It seems admission decisions comes out in May.

Canadian unis generally send out decisions in waves, starting in February and ending near the end of May.

@moneyp: Holistic colleges look at extracurriculars and essays (portfolio as well in the context of art schools). U Calgary is not holistic.

The Canadian holistic colleges are mostly art schools, but here’s a list of Canadian colleges that look at essays and/or ECs on all applications:

UBC

Quest

Canadian University College (essay only, but you can use the essay space to focus on an important EC that affected your life)

Queen’s

Waterloo
