University of California Admissions Process: Can turn someone away who meets minimum?

Hello:

I'm a parent and confused about the statement from University of California system about the UC admissions process.

If a student meets all of the standards to be admitted under the 'statewide path' (GPA, tests, etc) can they still not be admitted to ANY UC school?

For example, if a student applied to all UCs and met the standard, is there a chance they would get rejected by ALL of the schools?

Are there other things that they look at to determine admissions?

I know a student might not get accepted to UC Berkeley by meeting the guidelines for statewide path, but would they get rejected by every other UC school as well?

Pretty sure anybody who meets requirements will at least get into Merced.

They will be invited to accept a spot at:
UC Merced
UC Riverside
FYI:
Applications for CSUs closes on November 30th.

^ Riverside historically, but isn’t it possible that that could change?

do u mean transfer students or freshman? If it is freshman, there is no minimum scores requirements.

[Statewide eligibility](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/freshman/minimum-requirements/statewide/index.html)

So if you have a 2.0 gpa and 1200 SAT, I don’t think UCM will take you.

art- Look at the right side of the link you posted
Need 3.0 gpa for California resident and 3.4 gpa for non resident

Thanks for feedback.

I would assume that a 3.6 and above would get in then, since all testing and A-G requirements met?

Get in somewhere, yes, but it’s safest to apply widely. IOW, with a 3.6 uc gpa,be sure to include UC Santa Cruz, and UCR, unless you are sure you want Merced.
