Thank you so much, poster. Revealing.

Very interesting read. I don’t understand the dynamics. I see that number of white admits was much lower this year at every campus, but for example at UCSB it dropped significantly. Why?

White admits are being replaced by Hispanic admits. UCSB has done a good deal of outreach to recruit Hispanic students and become designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution. This benefits the university financially as they can then apply for additional funding.

“Schools with HSI status can see significant benefits. Federal agencies ranging from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to the National Endowment for the Humanities have awards aimed at Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and $98 million in funding was available through the U.S. Department of Education last year, according to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, an advocacy group for HSIs.”

The interesting thing is, UC admissions are race blind. The face of CA is changing.

The relevant thing to consider is the number of college eligible applicants in each group. It’s a little puzzling to me that there is a well documented “achievement gap” all through K-12 which now seems to disappear at the point of college acceptance. However I guess it’s a good thing. Since Hispanic students are now out performing their White peers we can save the millions we are currently spending on closing the achievement gap.
